I have completed the Ai conversation, and then the concentration test. Said the application is now being reviewed by management. This was for Preston, has anyone else heard anything more? How long would you expect it to be until the next stage (if passed)

Hi, I’m the same and for Preston. I’ve only heard the same as you. I’ve no idea how long it all takes. First time applying. Good luck.

Would expect to have invites for testing to start going out by the end of the month really, otherwise it's going to be October starts at the earliest IMO

This thread is getting weird. Why would mods delete posts that outed a liar but not the ones that gave us false hope?

To clarify, no one has heard anything (on this forum) since the online tests and the “application with hiring manager” email.
I did wonder where half my messages went, oh well, hopefully the thread will be a more supportive and positive one from now eh
I’ve just read back through the thread - I agree with what has been deleted as they were the most disruptive elements. If I were to try to go back and delete every related post, I’d be deleting half the thread and with that other helpful elements of conversations. I’m going to leave as is and allow the full context to tell the story :)

This all said, the forum doesn’t typically allow for discussion of moderating decisions in threads. Please do reach out via Conversation message or similar in the future.

Don't forget there is a talent pool to fill for future vacancies too. 1 vacancy now does not mean 1 position to fill.

For instance, my depot just hired 18 drivers for officially 4 positions - the rest are to cover retirements etc in 12-18 months time

where are you getting these practice tests from
I've been practicing using some of the free ones from the forum, and also an online dot practice test. I've also paid for some of the different materials. In all honesty, the free ones are perfect practice and you definitely don't need to spend money.

I had my “application is now with the hiring manager” email on 28th June - still waiting (Preston).
I don’t want to decline too many other jobs waiting for this one, but the opportunity is too good to miss.

It’s the waiting game!

If I was in need of a job and I had job offers, then I’d be accepting them.
Chance of getting a mainline driver position is very slim. For every 1000 people that I apply 1 person probably gets a job, odds might even be higher than that.
Obviously if you are in a good job already then that’s a different matter

Hundred percent agree with GPR. Although some people will get jobs at the end of the process, the reality is at this stage it's so far away for everyone, certainly too far away to be turning down other jobs unless you're happy with your current role.

Don't decline any jobs and pin your hopes on a driver job mate. If you take a job elsewhere and get lucky to be offered a driver job, just quit.

I'm lucky enough to be in a good job currently so it isn't an issue with me

You’re right, 3.5k -4K people applied for Lumo last year. Were only two apprentice positions.

I agree with this. The job I'm at now was at one stage my dream job. I still love it but with no progression I'm looking for a new challenge, and to fulfil a childhood dream. Don't quit or turn down a job now, only do that when you have a physical driver's job starter date Infront of you!

how are you guys doing in GBT practice tests? how many lines per sheet and omissions etc etc? any tips or tricks
Last time I did them I averaged 11 lines per sheet, with only a couple omitted/marked incorrectly. Haven't done them in a while though.

Yeah I think I was something similar, in the proper tests I get to the 2nd from bottom line with zero errors.
Should I start practicing? I've been waiting for a follow up since I got the hiring manager email.
You can do, the GBT is the only you where practicing can make a big difference. Almost a learned skill. The rest are memory or concentration tests.

The key with testing, once you have an invite, is to split them into the 2 sessions - don't even look at the computer tests before the written tests.

Try this one.

I've only ever used the provided OPC practice materials from previous applications

I know many people apply for the trainee train driver roles, but does anyone have an idea of how many make it through to the OPC? Surely the chances at that stage at much greater, even if still slim.

No one will know that really. The last OPC tests I did in person had 20 people. 10 one day and 10 the next day. This was for Avanti a few years ago. (People who passed this are still waiting for offers from Avanti, they’re in the talent pool) this was 2023. And a guy I got speaking to is still waiting after passing all tests.

Similar figures to both ones I've attended - about 10-15 for paper tests but probably 6-8 for computer testing

So in regards to this, if you passed the tests, interview etc you can end up in a talent pool waiting for a position to come up? Which by the sounds of it could be a good while.
Cheers

Most definitely. Although I don’t know about every single TOC. Lots of people are still in talent pools and that’s just people I’ve seen on this forum. As I said the guy I know who passed in 2023 is still waiting.
