Indeed, the bridges at Hindley and Ince were closed to road traffic for many months, rail traffic was only disrupted for the odd week or so.That’s not an unusual ratio really.

The most extreme recent case was probably the sorry saga of the A363 at Bradford on Avon.Indeed, the bridges at Hindley and Ince were closed to road traffic for many months, rail traffic was only disrupted for the odd week or so.
The railway company is due to begin the work on Monday, 5 September 2022 and finish Monday, 3 April 2023 [post 1] ... ... ... ... Open with small strip of road also barriers off [post 155, 18 December 2023].
Botley Road in Oxford might be in the running for that accoladeThe most extreme recent case was probably the sorry saga of the A363 at Bradford on Avon.
Its not a month for the railway, its 3 weeks. The month closure ratio of 12 to 1 in the Stockport Greek Street road to rail time closures seems greater than other quoted examples.
I was being kind. The matter of more concern to the bus and car users of Stockport is the twelve month closure of a major road junction at the roundabout. Its not a month for the railway, its 3 weeks.
Its been closed for a number of months already, has there been loads of press coverage of it going badly or have locals dealt with it?I was being kind. The matter of more concern to the bus and car users of Stockport is the twelve month closure of a major road junction at the roundabout.

What has been a concern was the diversionary route via Longshut Lane, where the traffic lights at the junction with the A6 could have been amended to allow the traffic using the diversionary route to be given more time.Being a local, we are dealing with it. The 'carnage and chaos' predicted by some prior to the work starting doesn't seem to have materialised. It was all advertised in advance and received a good amount of press coverage. Some bus times have now been tweaked by a few minutes to take into account the longer journeys round the diversions. After watching numerous motorists ignoring the many road closed signs everywhere in the first few weeks, people now seem to be finding ways round i
The 12-month closure period will certainly affect the home fixtures of Stockport County for most of the next season's games. The only time I have noticed it causing real problems was when County were at home. Even before the closure though, that area was very busy before and after matches
Pretty standard for any block north of Stoke.Lots of Northern services booked to use Chelford Loop I notice, I’ll be on one of them next week.
What arrangements would have been made for passengers booked direct to Manchester on TfW tickets? There was one TfW train using platform 3 at Wilmslow and starting from there back to South Wales because it was delayed getting towards Manchester.

That was possibly the 1547 TfW from Wilmslow to Fishguard. Was 20 minutes late on its inbound journey to Manchester Piccadilly, when cancelled at Wilmslow at around 1509. Several other Avanti/XC/Northern services immediately thereafter. Next TfW service just before 1600.What arrangements would have been made for passengers booked direct to Manchester on TfW tickets?

Usually ticket acceptance Crewe/Manchester with at least one of the other TOCs, normally Northern, sometimes Avanti too. What arrangements would have been made for passengers booked direct to Manchester on TfW tickets?
This is quite common, regardless of the blockadeThere was one TfW train using platform 3 at Wilmslow and starting from there back to South Wales because it was delayed getting towards Manchester.
I wonder. Could precedents be being set this month?I have noticed today that Northern are running Oxford Road to Liverpool (via Warrington Central) twice per hour all day just like in the good old days. I presume this is to make up for EMR not running Sheffield-Liverpool
Presumably Northern have ‘spare’ DMUs and crews who would normally be working Buxton and Chester services via Stockport (that can’t operate because of the Stockport blockade). Not sure that that would be the case in different circumstances.I wonder. Could precedents be being set this month?
Indeed but when, eventually, they get new rolling stock, and GBR has rationalised routes and services who knows!Presumably Northern have ‘spare’ DMUs and crews who would normally be working Buxton and Chester services via Stockport (that can’t operate because of the Stockport blockade). Well additional DMUs are not necessary becuase they could simply use those units allocated to the peak extras all day insteadPresumably Northern have ‘spare’ DMUs and crews who would normally be working Buxton and Chester services via Stockport (that can’t operate because of the Stockport blockade). A Rail Replacement Coach has broken down across both lanes, blocking Stoke Rd.
The services are diverting via Hanley Litchfield St & Leek Rd in both directions.
No service on Stoke Road at the moment.
