Manchester Airport station, in the concourse between the bus and rail sections, now has a big electronic sign listing departures on the "Navy Line" - perhaps the only example of the map colours being referenced at a stop (other than on the map itself of course)

More than 80,000 journeys were made on trams and shuttle buses as fans headed to Oasis’ homecoming gigs this weekend.
The events were some of the biggest in the history of the Bee Network but thanks to the efforts of TfGM staff and passengers, people were able to get to the gigs without a hitch.
Around 30% of all journeys to and from the gigs were made on public transport with a further 20% made by people choosing to enjoy the sun and walk to Heaton Park.
In total it is estimated more than 80,000 journeys were made across the two nights on both trams and the special shuttle buses, with thousands more choosing to walk to and from Heaton Park.
Fran Wilkinson, TfGM’s Director for Customer and Growth, said: “The last two nights have been truly special for Greater Manchester. Seeing thousands of fans come together for Oasis’ homecoming gigs was unforgettable, and we were proud to play our part. Our teams were busy throughout both evenings, with more than 80,000 journeys made on trams and shuttle buses between the city centre and Heaton Park and back, with thousands also choosing to soak up the sun and walk to the gigs. This means that around half of all journeys to the gigs were on public transport or by people choosing to walk. A massive thank you to everyone who travelled with us - your patience, good nature, and high spirits made all the difference. And a huge shout-out to our staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and on the frontline to advise and support passengers to keep things moving like clockwork. These were two of the busiest nights in the Bee Network’s history. And we know at times there were some queues but we got these moving as quickly as we could and got everyone to the gig and then home again safely. Even at the busiest times we weren’t seeing queues longer than 45 minutes - which is a real credit to our teams, our partners and our passengers. If you do feel your journey took too long or things could have been done better, we always want to hear from you, so please Rate Your Journey through the Bee Network app. As we gear up for more gigs this week we’re expecting three more busy nights. Extra trams will be running every six minutes or less from Victoria station, and tickets are still available on shuttle buses leaving from the Northern Quarter. Please give yourself plenty of time to get there and we will make sure you don’t look back in anger at your journey!”

Was there any reason to think the transport measures wouldn't be alright? They've already had the Parklife festival in Heaton Park this year and I don't remember any complaints coming from that. 90 minute waits are a pain, but I don't really see how you can avoid that given the capacity available and the number of people, and while it's not ideal in the heat I don't think TfGM can control the weather.

Not obvious perhaps but home going commuters and other passengers to Bury had to join the queues for the trams

Trams from Altrincham ran to various destinations at various times eg Victoria, Crumpsall and Bury - with some 29 mins gap on a 6min frequency around 1pm
Not to sure whether it was related to this mornings problems I've heard of various people today of delays through Victoria this afternoon although I also heard that this was down to signalling problems in/around Victoria so it seems Metrolink haven't had a good day to be honest.
As for Ashton line I think we knew this would happen with it operating as a stand alone service at the moment with no way of getting vehicles back to depot/swapped around, not to sure how many of the Ashton trams are out of service but it must be a few considering they had ticket acceptance in place on local bus services today.

I think there were a couple planned instances where units were safe to travel through the affected section overnight because they were clear. Although this cannot be done for long periods of time due to there not being a track to run on
Looks like one or more vehicles on Ashton Line may be out of service as for the 2nd day running ticket acceptance is in place on various local bus services again today.
Depending on how serious the problem is how would they get the tram/s back to Depot when the line reopens later next month?

Thanks, I thought I'd read somewhere that would be the case, but yes I guess they're limited to pre-planned instances at specific points during the work

If the fault(s) are serious enough, presumably they'll still be able to drag them back with another tram, but it might simply be a fault or faults that mean they can't run in service but could still get back to the Depot under their own power - i.e. just something that requires them over a pit for example.

@BeeNetwork Noticed long gaps between trams on the Ashton Service. There's 4 out of service trams parked at Picc & another 2 out of service trams parked up just before Picc. No doubt all 6 defunct. So how many working trams are actually on the Ashton Piccadilly line?
Brought the response Hi there, we have 5 services operating. Ticket acceptance is in place to help with the delays. We are hoping to improve this service by Thursday
Duration Mon 14 Jul, 6:00am - until further notice
Lines impacted
Ashton-Under-Lyne - Eccles
Stops impacted All Due to vehicle availability issues on the Ashton line, tram tickets and passes are being accepted on 7, 53, 76, 76A, 76B, 171, 172, 216, 219, 220, 221, 230 & 231 bus services.
So is it 6 trams now "stopped" and 5 still running??
Not sure what the PVR of the line is nor the effect users of the line for the Co-Op Arena
Usually a 6 mins service Piccadilly Station to Etihad M-S daytime and through the evening, with alternate trams running full line to Ashton

Looks like it's possibly 9 sets required? That assumes the Etihad/Ashton services interwork with each other on a 10 min turnaround at Piccadilly. Presumably, from looking at the track maps, they can utilise both platforms at Piccadilly as turnbacks from that direction?
Has the recent operational problems shown that the existing Metrolink network has reached the mximum capacity level demanded to run a service that will meet the passenger footfall?
Stadler Variobahns on Tramlink are fitted with air conditioning. IIRC Urbos 3s are as well but don’t quote me on that. I don’t think any Bombardier built trams have it unless Blackpool’s Flexity 2s do

The ones in West Midlands have it but not the Edinburgh ones. I believe all the Alstom Citadis fleets have it too - with big windows they would be sweltering otherwise.
Any updates on the Heaton Park power upgrades to enable the removal of more singles on the Bury Line? I write this crammed into a rather uncomfortable single 3012 leaving there

The new Substation is complete. Awaiting a possession to be able to complete the OHLE modifications I believe. It’s not currently connected to the OHLE.

Ah fair, can see lots of work has been done eact time I pass - be fascinating to see how it all works out, presume theres enough early M5000s to make all the Bury to Altrinchams doubles alongside the Altrincham to Piccadilly/Etihads

Can someone with the knowledge let me know in what year was the Metrolink onwards extension through the current Manchester Airport tram stop first made mention of in an official statement. I am not as well as hoped for at this moment in time and becoming a tad confused when I try to source matters myself.
