There is a rather newly laid (?), seemingly unused siding which goes from P1 parallel to the line to Warnham connecting to the headhunt for the Up sidings at Horsham. I have wondered whether they would electrify and signal it for use to access the Dorking line, to avoid any conflicts with the mainline.
I have thought the same for years. I don't understand why the facing crossover on the Three Bridges line was the priority. It is used by one train per day. I don't know what problem it is trying to solve. I have never been delayed outside Horsham waiting for platform 3 or 4, even when down Dorking trains had to use platform 3 and then shunt. Even if one platform were blocked by a total failure, the timetable could still function using the other platform with minor delays.

On the other hand, Dorking trains do get tangled up with up trains from the Arun valley. The up trains have a sub optimal departure time from Horsham to avoid a conflict. The proposal you mention would be used by 17 down trains and 15 up trains on weekdays.

[...]Access to rail replacement buses from Gatwick required use of the gateline in January so I imagine it'll be the same tomorrow.
Where are the buses parked? I've never used BML RRBs before, but used North Downs Line RRBs many times. They used to pick-up at the drop-off/pick-up point (can't remember which) for cars. It was the same level as the railway station ticket barriers.

Hear hear! I think that it would have some important benefits for passengers such as reduced journey time to beyond Dorking and better connections from the Arun to Mole Valley lines. I'd be interested to know if this was planned for that siding and never happened, or if there is some other purpose. There are a lot of facing turnouts into the engineering yard, after all.

Back to the diversionary trains yesterday, my amateur synopsis is that it went more smoothly than previously. Reviewing my footage it seems that most of the trains were well-loaded, although not packed. Presumably this is because more people are travelling than when these diversions usually take place in the winter. Most trains were running within 5 minutes of schedule where I observed them, approximately in the middle of their journey. I noticed the signallers at Dorking were holding re-starting SWR/SN terminators, which really helped with regulation of the 1Zxx. A few trains lost time at Sutton, Horsham, and Streatham North Jnc. A couple of trains were really late (30+ mins) and had to be cut short at Three Bridges, and late in the evening a train lost 45 mins at Epsom due to a passenger alarm (according to RTT). As always, I'm impressed that the line managed to cope reasonably well with 2 tph fast on top of its normal services – evidence perhaps that the Sutton & Mole Valley lines are underutilised.

I did London Victoria to Lewes in both directions yesterday but decided to do the normal route rather than the weird off route East Grinstead diversion:

London Victoria to East Croydon - Train
East Croydon to Redhill - Bus
Redhill to Gatwick Airport - Bus
Gatwick Airport to Three Bridges - Train
Three Bridges to Lewes - Train

Lewes to Three Bridges - Train
Three Bridges to Gatwick Airport - Train
Gatwick Airport to Redhill - Bus
Redhill to East Croydon - Bus
East Croydon to London Victoria - Train

I was surprised that the buses were fairly quiet. I had expected them to be packed and standing but all four buses were fairly quiet and had a good few seats available. I guess most people went via the East Grinstead route.

When I used them they were parked along the South Terminal upper forecourt, directly above the lower forecourt's coach stops and drop-off area.
I guess that is the same area as used for the North Downs Line diversions. In that case, the gateline is nowhere near?

Or simply didn’t travel. Sunday travel is significantly discretionary.

RRB to gateline requires doubling back via the South Terminal proper, so quite distant. Gateline to RRB not so much, but only because it includes a direct passageway that's otherwise restricted to authorised persons.

You would like to think that some work is taking place south of Redhill, given that there are no trains running to Gatwick.

Have any forum members viewed or travelled on the diversions today? Are they full?

We were told there was some work at Earlswood/Salfords area that they have taken opportunity to do at same time - asked about running GWR to Gatwick and that was reason why not.
