Am I right in thinking that with the upcoming signal upgrades ahead of the 2024 stock introduction, that this is the last time that the heritage stock can go on the Piccadilly?
The 2024 stock has all the necessary equipment for digital signalling and ATO but an actual line upgrade to use it is not currently planned.

There are no planned signalling upgrades for the Piccadilly, except the continual fitting of co-actor signals at existing ones for sighting issues.
I must have got mixed up with something else. Isn't something happening to the whole line before the 24 stock comes in?

Edit: seen all the further replies. Thanks for all the information everybody.

I remember watching a hidden London hangouts video and they said the 1938 stock will gain either TBTC or CBTC or ETCS.
It’s an aspiration, not a plan. It’s unfunded are there remain significant technical challenges.

Can you provide a source for it getting fitted with ETCS?

Any suggestions as to which station to photograph it at today? Preferably underground.

I really liked Arsenal during the last run through the central section.

I had a very enjoyable fun from Ealing Broadway to Cockfosters this morning. Really good atmosphere on board and enjoyed the staff/volunteers pointing things out to us.

Well done to everybody involved.

Is there any way to track the progress of this train? I cannot find it on intertube
I don't known if the code on the front changes with each trip, but it was 725 when I was on it earlier. I don't know if that helps.

Was another diabolical day for the Piccadilly Line today.

Were there any delays to the heritage train, or was it plane sailing for each trip? The folks I saw looked delighted. (My own passengers, not so much.)
The 1145 trip sat in the tunnel near Hatton Cross for a few minutes on the way back towards Northfields. Not sure what the problem was because it moved along fine after it got going again. The Piccadilly seemed to be running fine from Northfields to Earls Court at 1300. Where and when did the trouble start?

1519hrs between Hammersmith and Barons Court due to a track fire. No service between Acton Town and King's Cross for approximately 60 minutes. Trains obviously backing up from Heathrow and Uxbridge though.

Good service resumed at 0102hrs.

LUL trains keep their number for the whole traffic day, unless they get reformed onto a different service. Specials will almost always run with the same number whenever they’re out, although there was some clarity needed over whether the train was to run as 725 or 746 this weekend for ~reasons.

Unfortunately not today. Because of how Intertube/the TfL feeds work it depends on how the train is entered into the signalling system. A lot of the time specials run fully manually, avoiding them being unnecessarily regulated and allowing them to keep moving more easily if they end up ‘out of turn’ with scheduled service trains. It’s not fully insurmountable, but it means that if there are things to take control staff’s attention it expedites the smooth running.

This does also have the affect that it will not always appear on platform describes either, although arguably this isn’t a huge issue for an empty, non-stop service.

Thanks. I'm glad I missed that. It would not have been pleasant in that heat.

The ETCS comes from this PWI video about West London Orbital where they said that Network Rail plans to install ETCS on the North London and District Lines.
I will find the time stamps.

There's a miniature version at Hounslow West. Thomas the Tank keeps it company.
