1Z29 Three Bridges to Dartmouth

Reports that this (1Z29) came into Haywards heath at 60mph and overshooting the platform by about half 90% of the train going by pictures.

The train only reported 5L at keymer junction, so this sounds like a pretty quick turnaround given it was only picking up passengers at Haywards heath for 3 minutes booked.

I'm guessing there would have been staff in the back 47 to reverse this, or did everyone board via the last carriage? Anyone know what happened ? You'd think by the time they rang the signaller and gone through all the processes to reverse it would have been more than 5 down.

Interesting to know how these railtours drivers get route knowledge as well, given there's practically no railtours down the BML South of three bridges anymore, WCR usually with RTC but hardly any LSL.

I would think that passengers were boarded via whichever doors were at the platform, as you say getting permission to reverse would be likely to take rather longer.

I've been on plenty of charters which used platforms much shorter than the train, with disembarkation and boarding supervised by the onboard stewards. (Admittedly in the days before central door locking was required.)

AIUI most charters are driven by freight drivers. Even in areas with little or no commercial freight traffic, there will be drivers with experience of infrastructure trains, railhead treatment and suchlike. Longer charters that I've been on often change crews several times during the trip.

Understand this was nearly a Fail to Call but the driver realised and stopped with a couple of carriages still on the platform. Passengers boarded through the carriages on the platform.

Picture I saw showed the 47 practically just a few feet before the signal, so taking into factor the zoom I estimated 1 or two coaches in platform
