What does one get in the Chieftain Edinburgh > Inverness? Also is it possible that First is full? I don't know if I'll take that train or a different one.

What day are you thinking of travelling?

Edit: I've split this into a new thread and added the date to the title

Today, 10th lol

If you go onto the LNER website and access the 1st Class section it will show you on there.

Buying a ticket on the Day of travel is likely to be quite expensive - you can find out how much with a dummy booking on the website.

On checking fares today for The Chieftain ex Edinburgh to Inverness currently available for £43 (Advance) or £88 if they have run out -Dish Menu

Or, if you buy from us rather than LNER, £42.58 in 1st or £26.60 in standard.

Personally I would far rather travel on an HST, however I see ScotRail prices are vastly higher than LNER, so I can see why people would put up with a less comfortable 'Azuma'.

Note that the food portion sizes are small (the most filling option is probably the Ploughman's box, if available) so if you want a full meal on the train, you may want to bring something on board or buy from the cafe bar.

I didn't realise you could get 1st Class Tickets via RailUK Forums - that must have changed since I last looked at it.

Bear in mind you don't just pay an inflated fare on a Scotrail HST there's no free catering either.

Also with the LNER Service you have access to the Edinburgh Lounge.

If you are lucky you may get a second offering of food after Perth or somewhere further up the line. I got 2 offerings from Edinburgh to Aberdeen ex EDB and Dundee.

Let us know the outcome if you take the plunge.

It'll be nice, I hope! I have a cool ticket Brits can't use :D. I really love visiting your country and forgetting about the AVE and their competitors being so annoying lol.

If I had a 1st class Britrail, I would definitely get the HST, personally.

By the way, please don't use 'txt spk'; you can instead find a range of 'smileys'/'emoticons' choose from instead. Thanks :)
