According to Wikipedia's page for Southern, Class 171s operate on the main line between London Bridge to South Croydon. However, the page for South Croydon station says all services are operated by Class 377 EMUs. I don't get why they would run diesel trains on a part of the line that is all electrified, if 171s even operated there.
It does seem unlike Southern to terminate services at South Croydon though.

They work through on London Bridge to Uckfield trains and movements to Selhurst depot.

They only run on the mainline to South C as that's where they branch off to Oxted and Uckfield, with the section from Hurst Green to Uckfield being unelectrified.

Ah ok, I thought that Wikipedia was saying that they did services exclusively in London (for some reason), now its actually just using the mainline up to that point.

Up until the late 2010s there was a couple of peak hour and late evening and early morning 171s that called at intermediate stations (Norwood Junction, South Croydon, Sanderstead, Riddlesdown, Upper Warlingham, Woldingham) so they did indeed call at South Croydon previously.

Not sure if it still runs but there was a late night London Bridge - East Croydon service calling New Cross Gate and Norwood Junction that was always a 171

This was a 3-4 years ago so it might not run anymore

Yes, that no longer happens, because the necessary capacity is now provided by Thameslink and the 171s can go straight back to Selhurst depot.
