So that leaves a further 8 if I've calculated correctly after those that are left to be delivered.

It'll be interesting to see of they use these extra buses to cover for a future service increase allowing the fleet to grow to pre 2020 levels again or if they will see off some of the oldest buses.
It is indeed 8 left. 3 of these had already been delivered - 735, 741 and 746. I would assume these 3 have been getting mods at Ferrymill Motors and/or Volvo Cardonald.

@Bus9120UK also informs me that 740 and 743 are showing as taxed so probably aren’t far away which would leave just 732, 738 and 750 as nothing known on them.

I can’t remember the exact bus might have been 441 I was on route 43 on Friday from Queensferry to Edinburgh. It was one without the screens upstairs. I was surprised when there were electronic sounding next stop announcements. They also gave arrivals times in minutes until Drumsheugh Place and St Andrews House every now and again. Are these new/have they just been fitted? Will they be rolled out to the other buses without screens? Also will they just have voice or will screens be fitted at some point?

I've found most 4xx country buses have this, and if i remember correctly some of the 5xx screen ones too - more interestingly some City buses seem to show the actual bus route on the downstairs screens now.

Yes to all questions, I think. I'm not sure what the situation is with the oldest buses in the fleet and screens, depends on how long they've got.
The screens being fitted are a fairly simple black LED with orange text. Most of the Marine/Central 7900s have these fitted, as do many of the 401-425 fleet group.

That’s a good deal for whoever will get 934, a billboard that will spend half of every week parked on a random Edinburgh street after breaking down
Didn't know Murdo was that unreliable! (name comes from the wrap it used to carry for the mammoth exhibit at the museum in 2014). I know 930 had (or still has) a well-earned reputation of breaking down constantly, but I suppose some of the batch are now 16 years old, and likely quite worn out.

It’s been in and out of service a lot. Often off for several weeks at a time.

Are they going to be any more services changes this year and when will be for Lothian country buses changes soon

Noone knows, educated guess would say September? I do agree that Lothian Country needs a service upgrade soon, but nothing set in stone.

As started around ( maybe 2 page back) here the council is in talks with a commercial operator to have a new service to Livingston Village, I would say Late Aug would be a good guess, and would only need 3 buses to make a real impact.

Only need 3 buses… that’s almost £750k per year!

There will be enhancements to Lothian Country announced in coming weeks, however this will be to improve reliability rather than a significant change.

There will be mudfas and additional journeys introduced for August.

September will be the next significant change network wide.

Sorry—- spare buses which sit at locations ready to assist late running

(Multi-utility-diversion-framework-agreement)
The term was largely brought in during tram works but leads to additional journeys and odd workings

YET Lothian wasting double on the X19 for lot less passengers

That is good to hear, however I think most of us didn't expect a major review but how does the new Livingston Village service work in to this?

I do hope we get simple enough solutions like Livingston Village and Blackridge, especially the former. Certainly the amount of vehicles needed to improve the service isn’t actually that high, maybe 10-15 to really make a dent? It’s the resources that will and has been the challenge.

Certainly I wouldn’t complain if we lost the poorly used X19 in favour of improving everything else. Though politically this would divert the problems rather than solve them.

With Winchburgh housing estates still under construction I imagine the X19 will stay in place for a bit longer. Admittedly some journeys run shortly after an X18 or X38 along the same route, making the X19 seem more lightly-used than its full potential. But of course every service should wash its own face.

Seems clear now that people in Kirkliston have no case to support years of moaning about their bus services.

I think if and when Winchburgh Station is ever built (which is planned near the new houses) then its purpose is all but gone. I could just see a local bus to Gyle Centre running after that.

As long they don't divert the 72 from Eliburn to Livingston Village, that will just shift the problem. A service similar to the old First 21 Fauldhouse to the Livingston Centre via Whitburn, Armadale, Bathgate, Blackburn and St Johns would please a lot of people.

Could either the 73 or X40 be diverted to serve Livingston village? Although neither service has particularly generous layovers that could be reduced to allow for it.

Surely the 73 needs to be left as the Blackridge option? The only way for the 73 to pick it up would be to make it a circular route or move the direct Deans to The Centre bus onto the 74? Then again you’d still want this to carry on to Bathgate. I was told previously this was a no no due to the fare structure as it would serve the same zones multiple times. I can’t see them touching the X40.

I had considered the possibility of the 72 being upped to half hourly with a 72A being introduced. This would split Eliburn and Livingston Village as hourly each? Whilst not the best solution it would be a more realistic one.

It would be nice for each route to get a consistent allocation though rather than anything on anything. One can dream!

Surely the best options are.

72 - Split to run Kirkliston to Livingston Centre to improve reliability. (75 for Fauldhouse - Livingston)

73 - Extend to Blackridge, reroute via Wester Inch enroute to Bathgate.

74 - Leave it as it is, continue to connect with 73

75 - Covers Fauldhouse - Livingston section of 72 to improve reliability, rerouted to serve Livingston Village.

Or

76 - Armadale/Blackridge - Livingston
Runs via Bathgate, Wester Inch, Blackburn, Seafield and Livingston Village.

I don’t think they’ll split the 72. In any case I think you’ve missed Eliburn.
