I'm starting a 7 day North West Rover trip tomorrow and shall record my travels here. I'll be basing myself in Blackpool for 6 nights.

Quick question - Does anyone know if I can buy the Rover from a LNER TVM at Durham? I'd much rather have it on CCST than loo roll.

If your journey involves changing at Leeds, the ticket office is operated by Northern, and there are also Northern TVMs which will sell Rovers

Unfortunately I'm starting via Newcastle & Hexham. But possibly Northern TVM at Hexham? Although only a 15min connection at Hexham but 40 minutes or so at Newcastle if any options there.

Hexham has both a booking office and TVM!

Well not off to the best of starts...

I was booked on 1L44 1359 Durham to Newcastle but just had a notification from LNER that it is cancelled due to a fault with the signalling system at York.

Best get myself ready and down to the station so I can get an earlier train.

At Durham station now. The revised plan is the delayed 1S12 1327 Newcastle - Durham

Good news was that I was able to purchase the rover from the LNER TVM.

Currently enjoying a pint at The Waiting Room on platform 2... highly recommended!

EDIT: 801214 arriving at Durham forming 1S12...

What element of 'Delay Repay' might the OP legitimately be able to claim, with respect to their delayed travel today, as presumably the reported cancellation(s) occurred before their North West Rover ticket started its validity at Hexham? Would it just be for the ticket held from Durham (to Hexham)? Or should it be determined by comparing actual arrival time in Blackpool (if that's where they are still going) with their originally expected arrival time?

That's an interesting question actually. Durham - Hexham is on split advanced singles as follows...

Durham - Newcastle £3.30
Newcastle - Hexham £3.10 (Might get 25% of this back?)

So due to the cancellation of 1L44 I actually arrived in Newcastle early.

And as long as 2N23 doesn't pass 2W35 before Hexham then I have a good chance of making it to Carlisle more on less on time to my original plan.

But I do wonder if the 2 split advances and a rover would count as a single journey all the way to Blackpool?

I actually just got an email from LNER saying I might be entitled to 40 minutes delay repay due to the cancelled 1L44 but of course I can't actually claim that since I got an earlier train instead.

Just left Newcastle 21 down on 2W35 but conductor assures me 2N23 won't pass us.

EDIT: 156483 & 156465 arriving Newcastle forming 2W35 to Hexham...

Now on 2N23 to Carlisle, unfortunately didn't get a chance to try the Platform Bar at Hexham so a trip back there will be needed one day I think.

RTT had us 16 late arriving in Hexham so I guess I'm technically due a tiny amount of delay repay but suspect it will be more hassle than it's worth.

Slight change of plan... 1M16 was 20 late into Carlisle so jumped on that for my leg to Preston

390154 arriving in Carlisle forming 1M16 to Euston...

It could be another potential delay replay claim but wonder how that would work with it being solely on the Rover.

And last train of the day 331110 arrives at Preston forming 1N81 to Blackpool North...

So despite everything it looks like I will be arriving in Blackpool exactly when I thought I would be.

No problem with delay repay on rovers, can be tricky to try and calculate what you'll get but sometimes I've been pleasantly surprised.
