There have been photos of 747 on its delivery run today on Facebook so if 734 and 736 are also there with confirmed 728 and 745, then that’s 5 BZL’s of the remaining 14 that are at Seafield.

I would expect 454 and 461 to be released by 728 and 745. After that, I suspect we’ll start seeing moves to Marine to free up MMC’s to Longstone to release Skylink’s as the last of the known Lothian Country bound examples will have moved.

Hypothetically speaking on that part, 734, 736 and 747 into service at Central, releasing 466-468 to Marine, in turn releasing 672-674 to Longstone, which then releases 501, 503 and 505? Something like that anyway.

843 and 844 remain in use as extras due to a number of the ex London B9TL’s being out of use.
Good news. I was hoping that 466-468 would move to Lothian Country as well for service expansion but it makes sense to move them back to Marine to release buses for Longstone. There will be plenty of spare green buses once all have been completed if they aren't sold immediately.

464 could still move across, but I wouldn’t be certain of it. The numbers don’t balance out with it. 465 shouldn’t as the charity bus, while 466-468 are obviously the Zoo Wraps - which I believe are part of an arranged contract?

They could always leave the zoo wraps and put them on the X18 and just paint the madder to green.

Some BZL’s are due to Marine once enough charging ports are completed and ready.
Service 5 will see the first Marine upgrade to BZL’s, so I’d expect some reshuffle once more deliveries arrive.

Though you would expect Marine’s to come from the next batch rather than this current one or moves away from Central.

I had considered the possibility of 291-294 moving to Marine for Uni Shuttle as well, an obvious candidate for electric conversion.

East coast does have the longbow bus though, so not an impossibility?
No, but the Zoo wraps are part of a contract so something would need to give on that part. The contract for the Strongbow bus will be a different type.

It’d be easier to transfer say 1030-1032 back to Livingston and slot in 466-468 at Marine in their place.

That’s 736 activated at Seafield. 728 and 745 remain there as well.

Hopefully 734 and 747 switched on soon.
good to see! looks like we might actually see all of 701-750 in service before the 2 year anniversary of them being initially ordered. and then hopefully the rumoured 751-798 will be delivered in a shorter timeframe.

Indeed. Hopefully that is the case.

If my maths adds up then I would think the second batch should be split almost equally between Central and Marine.

I would expect 751-770 to be allocated to Central to convert the last obvious routes in the 23 and 27. Adding in 701-750 will have converted at least the 7, 8, 9, 10, 14 and 24 to electric. After that I can’t see another Central route that would suit the BZL’s and can realistically get them. Including 291-294 that would give Central an electric allocation of 75 (291-294, 700-770) against an off peak requirement of 56. Peak requirement likely adds up to 10 or so on to that leaving about 10 so spare per day/maintenance.

If the 5 is converted which needs just 8 vehicles, then clearly with 28 BZL’s for Marine would allow at least one more route to switch to electric, possibly two. There is the 4 which needs 9 buses.

There is the option as I said before to move 291-294 to Marine and allocate 771-775 to Central vice Marine to backfill them. That would still leave Marine with 23 BZL’s for presumably 4 and 5 against a requirement of 17 with 291-294 for Uni Shuttle.

Of course if frequency increases are planned, then that changes everything. The 7 and 14 have looked particularly busy of late while the 8 may also benefit from one. The other Central electric routes I think are holding themselves pretty well.

oh yikes, that could indeed take a long time to repair.
If it is repaired, it may well become the second XLB to be written off if the damage is severe.

I'm reminded of what happened to Atlantean 570 in the LRT era. When new it was rear-ended by an SMT Lodekka at Liberton Dams and was repaired. In 1991 it was hit from behind again, this time by Atlantean 449 on St John's Road west of Balgreen Road and which saw both buses written off.

It is pretty bad. Wrote off? I’m not so sure. Until there are images of the rear it would be difficult to suggest anything.

Though I am reliably informed the truck was travelling at a fair speed and it seems probable it’s swerved into the back of 1065 to avoid a car, which if that has been the case this could’ve been a fatal crash. Of course there are countless reasons why it may have been at such a speed. Not good either way.

Its depends how much damage there is to the engine and its components and also the chasis. Its probably a year out of service but a write off although slim could be possible depending on the price of repairs

With the exception of the upper deck rear, the rest of the rear is pretty much mangled with the power pack ending up in the lower saloon.

Ouch. It’ll all depend on if the structure has been compromised or not then. Clearly this is a massive job if it’s even possible. Possibly the biggest I’ve seen from Lothian if it doesn’t happen. What won’t help is the uncertainty with ADL at the moment either.

Is this a job beyond Ferrymill Motors? Might ADL end up with the bus? Its age is probably what will save it. Granted far beyond warranty in terms of its age.

Obviously Trident 619 was written off in similar circumstances, albeit that had damage at both ends of a sandwich with two Eclipse’s.

Here’s a couple photos of it arriving back at central

That's easily repairable, it's pretty simple when you take away all the panels, engine out, repair box section of frame and back together.
That’s good. It’ll be very Labour intensive and time consuming. I’d be amazed if it’s back out this year.

Hadn't realised that another xlb had been written off, what were the circumstances for that one again?

Was damaged in a fire in 2020, has been donated to the risk factory
Further to last month's report, Alexander Dennis Enviro400XLB-bodied Volvo B8L tri-axle 1076 (SJ19 OWO), which sustained fire damage in October 2020, was donated to The Risk Factory in Edinburgh to help promote road safety awareness among schoolchildren. https://www.keybuses.com/article/sc...rt,road safety awareness among schoolchildren.
Added the details from this thread that were posted by ecb124 previously.

1076, engine fire in October 2020. It became an XSB - its front end is now with The Risk Factory.
you made me laugh there!

although it does seem quite unfortunate that two XLBs have now been very heavily damaged (although hopefully 1065 will return eventually unlike 1076) when it's really quite a rare model. It's still quite new though so that might save it, as mentioned before.

I remember 1110 was damaged a few years ago, but I don't think as badly as 1065.

That’s another BZL appeared at Seafield, 726. This takes this recently delivered number to six.

726, 728, 734, 736 and 747 are all at Seafield while 745 has now moved to Central.

So that leaves a further 8 if I've calculated correctly after those that are left to be delivered.

It'll be interesting to see of they use these extra buses to cover for a future service increase allowing the fleet to grow to pre 2020 levels again or if they will see off some of the oldest buses.
