Think the same. Have seen too many youtube news channels of late with catchy titles including those of imminent doom. Also, newspapers with many merged here in Canada may have more contract staff than 20 years ago so clicks/adverts mean more author revenue.

The way the news is reporting makes me feel worried after the US attacked the nuclear facility in Iran and of course we are hearing of the war between Iran and Israel.

The other day, we had news that the UK must be prepared to be “war ready”.

This all shows that we live in a fragile world, which the former First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon had said as we went into first lockdown in 2020, and indeed she is not wrong.

If we are to face World War 3, it will not be beneficial for all of us. Innocent people would die, and we would all suffer the consequences such as damage to infrastructure such as electricity, internet, water, etc; food rationing, famine; sad news because your family and/or friend died in the conflict.

People such as Putin, Trump, Kim Jong-Un, etc. should think about the consequences of the Nuclear War before they even think about launching any nuke weapons. I think they ought to watch Threads, a film by Barry Hines.

In case you've not noticed, some humans can be rather violent. And far too many latch on to and follow what others say. Hence for my entire life and likely your entire life, there has always been a war or conflict somewhere around the world.

Of course some "news" media likes to suggest, discuss or imply that there may be another world war. But it's all outrageous speculation.

Have you heard of the expression "the best defense is a good offense"? All that the government and indeed NATO are saying is that if each member country improves it's own military, any potential enemy is going to think far more carefully before getting any ideas on starting any new war with a NATO member. Spending more money on our armed forces is therefore a deterrent. It doesn't mean we are going to war.

And as others have said, no leader of any country is likely to start a nuclear war, because they don't want to be on the receiving end of a retaliatory strike. The likes of Putin, Trump, Kim Jong-Un, etc. like the good life. They don't want to.loose that.

This is it. The leaders you’ve mentioned are only interested in their own wealth and power, all of which evaporates (quite literally!) in the event of a nuclear war. There’s simply nothing in it for them. The fanatics running Iran are slightly different in my opinion, but they’re not nuclear armed and are unlikely to be, ever.

The same applies to a full scale conventional war between major powers; no one is up for it. I think you’re absolutely right in that we (i.e. NATO and the West) can further reduce the chance of a major conflict by being ready for one. We’re not as ready as we should be so are doing something about it.

It’s not just about defence spending and military capability; Putin in particular views Western society as decadent and frankly, soft. We do face an increased threat, but the rhetoric we’re hearing from the government is designed to dispel this as much as anything. Whilst we’re unlikely to ever be as prepared as say Finland who are geared up to mobilise the entire country at short notice, Putin et al need to know that if it comes to it we’re prepared to switch off the TV, get off our backsides and defend our country and way of life.
