Curious LNER 'destination': Princes St Gardens

I recently booked Aberdeen-Edinburgh with LNER. Since then I have had a number of emails about my forthcoming 'trip to Princes St Gardens', which seems a bit strange. Do they do this for other destinations?

Can't remember when, but I saw someone post on twitter about a trip from Edinburgh that showed in an email 'from Princes St Gardens' and they tweeted LNER concerned that they would end up on a rail replacement bus. It was recent, and it was a train

Northern operate a Leeds service from York through Harrogate which is advertised as York to Burley Park which is the last station before the final destination of Leeds, the purpose appears to be to encourage passengers to travel on the far more expensive albeit quicker main line route.

Princes St Gardens is an actual timing point location so I suspect this is just a mild cock up where an operational stop or similar has been set to a passenger one by accident.

A fair amount of services have pathing stops in at Princes St. Gardens so this is plausible, but still raises the question why is the LNER marketing emails pulling it from the itinerary.

This happened to my dad about two weeks ago. He forwarded me the email and I screenshotted it to share here, but didn't remember to until now!

The train involved was one that originated in Aberdeen, so our best theory is that the Princes St Gardens pass was misentered somewhere as being the station call then pulled automatically into the email. Given that the westernmost parts of Edinburgh's through platforms are in fact located almost by Princes Street Gardens themselves, we considered that it might be an internal code to identify a particular subset of carriages on through services to staff, but it felt like a stretch.

That's interesting, I've had an email from LNER tonight about my journey tomorrow "between Shipley and Leeds Sig L3606."

Which would seem that it is pulling in the last timing point before the journey destination - I have an advance ticket for Shipley to Leeds in the morning.

Some DMU destination blinds like This One were manufactured with Cluny Bridge as a destination: there was never a station there. Apparently the manufacturer was given a Working Timetable with the unwanted locations crossed out, but whoever prepared it forgot to cross out Cluny Bridge.

I was on a GWR IET on Saturday where the rear portion was running to Carmarthen, and the front portion was terminating at Swansea Maliphant Depot. It was being advertised on the train’s internal and external PIS displays.

Not 100% related, but I swear I remember seeing Princes St Gardens on a platform PIS screen at Paisley Gilmour St a few years ago - 2018 I think it was - as part of the normal list of calling points for a Ayr - Edinburgh/North Berwick service. I wrote it off as a mere error - a pathing stop slipping it's way in - as these things happen sometimes, but it was still strange to see.

It is clearly just a glitch in what ever automated email system LNER use. I would let them know about it.

It hadn't occurred to me that pointless emails days before travel would use running data rather than the booking I had made, though on reflection it would make sense if they had had something important to tell me. I got a useful message that the train was delayed after I had got off at Haymarket on time - the train sat there for 15 minutes waiting for a platform at Waverley.

I had a weird one the other week when on a Northern. I had booked from James Cook to Heworth and the itinerary it gave me was a bit weird.
