My wife and I are travelling down to Cardiff in September, 12 weeks tomorrow so I was having a quick look at prices / routes

I initially wanted to travel via Manchester on TPE, then take the TfW Premier Service, but it seems there are problems to leeds and the Transport for Wales Premier train doesn't run on a Sunday.

The 'normal' route would be using XCountry, but having seen numerous posts here about their poor service / crowding i don't think I'll bother.

We like the new TPE first class service, so I am thinking about..

(08:59) NCL to York (09:59) .. TPE first, at £26.60

(10:29) YRK - KGX (12:39) LNER
(13:38) Paddington to Bristol Parkway (15:00) GWR
(15;39) Bristol Parkway to Cardiff Central (16:12) GWR

This would be £82.70 for the two of us (with senior railcards), so a grand total of £109.30, not too bad.

Do the experts here agree that this isn't a bad idea and price ?

Tomorrow will be exactly 12 weeks ahead of travel .. should i wait a day, or book now

Final question .. can we book individual seats on the LNER and GWR trains if i book through the forum's site

UPDATE !

The LNER / GWR prices are for the week earlier .. maybe I'll have to wait until tomorrow

Sorry !

Just had a brief look at RTT for the 14th September... I cannot see a 13:38 leaving Paddington for Bristol Parkway, however there is a 13:37 and that runs directly to Cardiff Central, so no need to change at Bristol Parkway, unless doing that makes it cheaper?

Thanks .. do you mean, although tomorrow is exactly 12 weeks before travel, as it's a Sunday any price change will only be shown after the weekend, ie on Monday
They tend to upload a week at a time, so on Thursday IIRC.
