I have some old railway magazines: RAIL, Railways Illustrated, entrain, and Modern Railways largely from 2003-2005 era. Also some Modern Railways from 1963 and 1964.

I remember when I was younger you could often buy these at preserved railways which were presumably donated by visitors but I don’t remember seeing these for sale in shops recently.

Do any railways, or forum members, still collect these? Otherwise I’m tempted to bin them.

There were a few boxes of them in the station emporium at Loughborough on the GCR the other day, as well as a bit of paper saying how much the shop had taken over the last year and the previous many years selling old books and magazines.

If only you hadn’t been concentrating so hard on how to send me back to Devon with a box full of 500 pens…

@Mojo - I already have the magazines, but I'm looking for a number of empty binders for Rail and Steam Railway as the manufacturer went bust a couple of years ago... if you have any of those specific binders available...?

Went into the shop, the sign said they weren’t taking any donations.

What is the binder you’re looking for?

About five each of the extra wide ones for Rail with 26 of those metal binding rods in them and the medium wide ones for Steam Railway. with 13 binding rods in them.

I'm not sure binding rods is the correct technical term, but I think you know what I mean?

Many railway magazines these days are like newspapers, and there is little interest in yesterdays' news.

Hi @Mojo - I just sorted out the pile of magazines awaiting binding here and yes, it's 5 of each - though 6 each would be useful; I have four complete years of each plus one part year awaiting binding.

About 18 months ago we took several bags of magazines to the Aln Valley Railway at Alnwick after it became apparent that my uncle's move to a care home had become permanent. They were grateful to have them, but I had made sure to e-mail beforehand to make sure that this would be the case. I'd suggest that the OP contact their local preserved railway.
