Say I wanted my Railcards contained within my Trainline app/profile to remain dormant (including a NetWork Rail card), is it permissible for me to get a Network Railcard via the Railcard.co.uk app and use that on permitted journeys instead?

Yes of course. You can buy a railcard from wherever you want. And you can use that railcard to purchase tickets from any retailer.

Trainsplit’s app sells them and you can always buy a physical railcard at a station.

I’m not sure what problem you’re trying to solve.

Yes, they are separate.

If you are wanting to avoid using Trainline entirely make sure to avoid the Trainline operated TOC sites too, I'm not quite sure which ones it is now but others may be able to help.

(For others - the OP has posted in a disputes thread about having purchased a Railcard they were not entitled to from Trainline, and the advice has generally been to simply avoid Trainline going forward)

Thank you. I want this to be above board and in line with Ts&Cs. Can you explain (or point me in the direction of relevant info) on Trainline operated train operating company sites?
Also, apologies for not being absolutely clear in my original thread post:

You can buy as many railcards as you please. You’ll pay for each one.

There isn’t such thing as a dormant railcard. If you’ve bought one it remains live until it expires. You can buy as many railcards as you like from wherever you like and use them with tickets regardless of where they were purchased.

IIRC you can remove railcards from the app ahead of their expiry date, you certainly can with the Railcard app. And you can own multiple railcards, having multiple railcards in the app.

The railcard remains active- there’s no such thing as a dormant railcard- but if it’s not in the app you won’t be tempted to use it.

What is the actual reason for this?

This feels like you're trying to do X, so asking us a question about Y, when really you should just ask about X instead!

Might just be best to get a physical railcard from the station. No apps to worry about. I carry my physical railcard in the back of my phone case so I always have it with me.

The only railcard you can't get as a physical railcard is a 26-30 railcard, these are digital only.
