I travelled on a 701 on Saturday between Waterloo and Feltham and was suprised to see the non commercial guard doing a ticket check complete with yellow iPhone for contactless

Yes this appears to be a relatively new initiative. Seen it a few times.

I seem to recall that this was part of the negotiated settlement back in 2020. The agreement was posted somewhere on these forums.

5Q77 1618 Bicester to Wimbledon Park (via Willesden South West Sidings) is running today (Tues 10.06.25) powered by 69013, can anyone say what is being conveyed please.

701 056 went through Oxford about 10 minutes ago.

Anyone know what worked 1h90 (1801 Strawberry Hill to Waterloo) this (Tuesday 10th) evening. RTT is being mysterious about it.

[OneTrackMinded]

Anyone know when the next 701 software update might be? The PIDs still say “TfL Rail”….

Need updates then, some storage far away at different locations, assume this reason

JourneyCheck looking pretty dire this morning, lots of short forms.

I'm not clever enough with RTT to know if this is more issues with the 701's or older stock falling apart.

Think it's probably partly due to the fatality that ruined the service late last night. I doubt much stock that needed depot attention ended in the correct location.

All 9 701s are in service this morning as planned.

If you look at Journeycheck and it says 4 instead of 8 coaches it's not a 701 as there are no 8 coach 701s.

The 5 instead of 10 coaches today is 458/5s, as it was yesterday.

Haven’t seen a 701 storage move to Long Marston for a while, perhaps is due to some coming out from Bicester recently

Not forgetting that the incident train (8.450) will need deep cleaning as well as a thorough inspection, so that’s a further two diagrams uncovered.

As this is a 701 thread, does that mean they ran some 5car 701s instead of 10car.

I wasn't aware of any 5cars in service yet.

There are no 5 car sets in service
Short forms will be the other types of fleets.

Turns out probably mostly connected with the fatality last night leaving stock miss placed for this morning.

BUT a plausible connection with 701s would have been been if 701s failed (or crew problems etc) and other services got short formed to cover the gaps.
But it is a fairly healthy turnout of nine (aiui ?) 701s today (by current standards).

[SWT_USER]

Thanks all. Wasn't aware of the fatality last night so that does explain things.

Genuinely good news that all 9 are out to play today, and that they are cleared to Reading now in time for Ascot. Hope the introduction keeps on at this pace.. and hope to see a few on the Hounslow loop soon too.

[adc82140]

Is there anywhere on the suburban network where they are not yet cleared for passenger use, or are we now just waiting for the throughput of more signed off drivers?

Surbiton to Guildford via Woking and surbiton to effingham junction. Virginia water to chertsey and Byfleet and new haw.
Also Guildford to Farnham/alton and the ascot to aldershot branches.

Although it's worth noting that except during high peaks, the Hounslow loop is already now completely rid of un-airconditioned, toiletless, knackered old 455s. I'll grant you that a 701 will boost capacity on a busy pair of 458s, though.

I can't imagine Guildford to Farnham/Alton needing 701s any time soon, and Ascot to Aldershot will only be required for two trains per day already free of 455s. Chertsey is also 95% 458/4 so not huge urgency for these.

Surely Surbiton to Woking and to Guildford via Cobham will be the pressing clearances now.
