Adding my thanks and congratulations on 20 amazing years, for almost 15 of which I have had the honour and pleasure of being a member.

The number of times when there's been a rail related query in the family, and I've automatically said "I'll ask my mates on the forum", and always had helpful replies, and generally quickly when speed is of the essence. Thanks also for bearing with my more stupid questions, and appreciating that many of us don't understand jargon and head codes.

They should livery a train in honour of this site.

Happy 20 years, RailUK Forums!

Blimey, a lot has changed on the railways in the last two decades. The abolishment of the Strategic Rail Authority, Eurostar moving to a newly refurbished St Pancras, the eradication of Pacers, the rise and fall of the planned HS2 network, renationalisation, CrossCountry is still rubbish...

Why can't TOCs be like Sainsburys

I love reading the comments on this 'Fares, tickets and routeing' section of the site. There is sometimes a real feeling from posters that the railway exists only to rip customers off. And in some cases the answers given would lead you to believe that was true! I was in the supermarket...

And with the railway as a whole celebrating its 200th anniversary (dating to the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825, the first public railway using steam trains), that means that railforums has been around for almost exactly 10% of the time the UK's railways have been around!

It's worse than that! When I first joined the Forum in 2009 and for a few years after that it was possible to read the Forum. As in read every post on every thread and you'd be waiting for someone to post something!

Now it's impossible unless you put a lot of time into it!

It is odd when you look at it like that!

I discovered this forum in 2008 when I was about 16!

Many congrats - twice as long as my railway career so far!

It’s certainly a useful and interesting resource, and was instrumental in me landing my first job in the industry. It’s especially impressive to see how the jobs and careers section has progressed just over the last few years.

It's somewhat strange to think the Forum is older than me. Congratulations .

And that makes me feel incredibly old as I started working in 2005, albeit not in the railway industry!
