I'm visiting every train station in the uk, Tuesday night I'm going to Abercynon and Aberdare.

I got Manchester-Abercynon for £13 5 day notice

But is you search from Chorley my nearest station it's £43

Something has got to be done about this. I've just realised how the websites work, many people don't

I usually would say you need to get out more - I think in your case you need to stay in more

Are you doing them in alphabetical order?

Advance tickets are not always available on services with connections.

Had someone complaining about National Express at work, they have a promotion on at the moment where £9 tickets are available between most destinations, unless you want to get off at an airport - airports are excluded from the promotion. Not sure if you could buy a ticket for London and get off at the airport

It's because of different operators setting fares.

If you try Knutsford-Carlisle then a journey involving using Virgin north of Preston usually has a cheap Advance fare. If the journey involves using TPE and Northern only then no advance fare is available.

Doing so would put you in breach of NX's Conditions of Carriage, which don't permit starting long, stopping short, or breaks of journey, as well as the Terms and Conditions for the ticket in question.

The penalty for this appears to be having to purchase an undiscounted Single for the journey you have actually made.

On Tuesday it's £27 from Manchester, or £35 from Chorley. So £8 more.

Note that it is possible for the TPE leg to run out of quota for cheap AP availability and that could push up the price for the entire journey. Though I found no evidence of that happening on Tuesday.

Yes, you need to book earlier. Advance tickets go on sale up to 12 weeks in advance.

In future can you not post in a way that makes it difficult for us to assist you please? I will also edit your topic title, please use sensible topic titles rather than silly titles like "expensive tickets" or "Another rip off", if you post any more topics with a similar title and similar content I will simply delete it (you did a similar thing on 10 June). As for only just discovering how it works, I find that odd, given that you seemed to work that out in your post of 10 June, and you had plenty of replies. If you want advice, please post in a way that lets us help you.

Well, purely and simply, it's against the specific restriction on the ticket, which prohibits certain flexibilities.

It doesn't have an awful lot to do with the National Rail Conditions of Carriage.

I'm getting the 9.35pm train from Manchester, 4 hours wait at Cardiff, which why it was £13, £27 coming back

If you do two stations every single weekend, you should be able to finish by 2036!

Well, I suppose that several stations could be done on the same line, even if setting foot on them in alphabetical order.

Pilning will be a bugger, one train a week on a Saturday, Melksham two trains a day is another difficult one.

It's somewhat off-topic for this thread (and forum), but the last time I looked they explicitly did allow stopping short etc. and they have recently changed it.

and, I am 99.99% certain that their current conditions would not be considered lawful.
(e.g. on a return ticket, they say that they can simply choose to abandon you at your destination and just give you a 50% refund, even if you have a reservation.)
