Freightliner Class 70 Workings

Morning all,

I'm passing by Eastleigh tomorrow and have been thinking about stopping for a few hours, probably from 11:00 - 17:00. Could anyone advise please whether any of the timetabled Freightliner services that would pass through in this time frame are scheduled to be hauled by a Class 70?

I've recently updated my master list of loco's that I've seen, and it turns out I still need to see 10 of the Freightliner 70's.

Yes should see a few yesterday they were on 4O14, 4M61, 4S59, 4O38, 4M98 in that timeframe

Great, thank you, that's useful to know! Looks like those services ran last Friday so hopefully that means they'll run tomorrow as well.

Knowing my luck they'll be hauled by the 70's I've already seen, but if I can tick off at least 1 new one I'll be happy!

At the minute from Railcam info, following are at Leeds. 003, 006, 010 and not moved in last 2 weeks at least

can’t see anything for 012 (which I think had accident way back coming off the boat and went back to US) 013/018/019 so maybe these three are the stored ones

Four of the ones I need worked services to/from Southampton, and another one was parked there.

Might have to get a train past the docks so I can see the one that's parked up. Not sure there's any way you can see the parked locomotives from the road, is there?

You can view the depot from the road over bridge to Dock Gate 20. Been a few years since I last went so unsure of where to park.

So far I’ve seen 016 on 4O14, 002 on 4M61, and 007 on 4O90. 002 and 007 were both new ones for me so I’m off to a decent start!

Afternoon All,

I'm on a railtour on Sunday with my Dad from York to Carlisle, and due to Leeds Station being inaccessible thanks to engineering works, they're running the train via Woodlesford and Castleford instead. I think this means I'll be going past Leeds Midland Road depot.

I'm aware that 70006, 70013 and 70014 are there. Given they're all been there for a while, are they likely to be in the line of loco's closest to the main line?

I found this drone footage on YouTube uploaded on 25th June... hard to make out the numbers (although loco numbers are included in description) but I think 70006 and 70013 are in the line next to the railway (see from 4:20 for example).

70014 shows at Midland Road on TOPS but appears to have got there after that was filmed, so could be anywhere on or in the depot (or even in Hunslet yard opposite if they happen to be using it as a shunt loco).

Thank you very much for the reply and for sharing the video. It’s a relief to see there’s no vegetation between the line of loco’s and the mainline, I was concerned this might potentially obscure the view!

I too could just about make out 006 and 013 in the line in the video. Good to know where I need to train my eyes when we go past.

The rail tour should be great! 70th birthday present for my dad, and we’re booked to be hauled by Tornado, so we’re both excited about that!
