Buying an All Line Rover

Planning an all line rover in a couple of weeks time and I'm wondering whether I can just buy my ticket on the day from a mainline station such as Crewe or Stafford?

Yep, that's the easiest way to do it. At a Avanti ticket office I think they can do it on a credit card sized ticket if you ask too

Yes, it's perfectly ok to buy the ticket on the day of travel but do make sure the ticket office will be open at the time you want to purchase it.

no problem buying on the day but i would buy it a couple of days before in case there are any issues on the day. I had problems buying an ALR at Milton Keynes so was glad not to be rushing for the train there and then.

Ticket offices wont sell many so the cashier might never have done one before.

I would agree with buying it a couple of days in advance, though I’ve never had an issue with purchasing one at my local stations.

LNER do 10% cashback if purchasing tickets from them, when using an American Express card. May be worth exploring if this is possible for you locally, as it could be fairly generous.

If you're in Crewe/Stafford area, you'd probably need to get over to somewhere like Doncaster, Leeds or York and find an LNER employee or LNER ticket office.

Not all AMEX card holders get 10%. I'm only getting 5% at present!

I hope so. I would think a paper one would be pretty tatty at the end of 2 weeks

Ticket bought and the fun can begin on Saturday.
Only drawback was the staff at Crewe insisted on printing it on paper which is obviously outsized for my wallet

Different circumstances, but LNER staff at Darlington refused/couldn’t print a future-dated Cumbria Round Robin on CCST stock.

It’s just a preference really but I really quite like to have the old school tickets - especially on rovers/rangers.
