On page 40 of the recent book David Cross: Railways Remembered a signal box "Abbotsford" is mentioned. Did a 'box with that name really exist and if so where exactly was it positioned?

Many thanks in advance and best wishes from Germany, Helmut

There was a box called Abbotscliffe at mileage 72 miles and 64 chains between Folkestone and Dover. The first box opened at an unknown date and closed 19 December 1915. A new box opened on 1 August 1919 and closed 16 February 1962. (If I remember the section of line was closed around 1915-1919 due to a major landslip.)

Abbotsford is more commonly mentioned as the baronial-style home of the Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott. It’s near Melrose in what is sometimes called The Borders.
