Both Wolverhampton-Shrewsbury and the Trent valley is closed.
I have a TFW/WMR-only return ticket (not Avanti).

Rather than use the replacement bus, can I go via Hereford or Newport and then use GWR to Paddington? Or do I need to go via Crewe to Stafford and then change to get to brum and then change again..?

Travelling from Shrewsbury to London via Hereford isn't a permitted route, and involves using an operator (GWR) that your ticket doesn't permit.

So you will have to either go via Crewe (technically ruled out via an easement on the "TfW/WMR only" route fares, but I doubt most staff are aware of that) and then change as necessary, or take the replacement bus to Wolverhampton.

Ok thanks. Do to the disruption can I take an Avanti from Crewe to brum (which ironically will be going all the way to Euston) or do i need to go to Stafford on wmr and then Stafford-brum?

Do you already have a ticket or tickets? If so, what is it/are they?

As far as I'm aware you will need to abide by the operator restriction I'm afraid, at least it is sort of valid via Crewe so there's a way to avoid the bus (edited due to Watershed's superior knowledge).

You could ask the Avanti TM on the platform at Crewe (not on board!) if it would be ok to go with them to Birmingham due to the closures (perhaps cheekily all the way to London) but there's no obligation on them to say yes.

No, there is no ticket acceptance due to the engineering works. You have to stick to the permitted routes and restrictions shown on your ticket.

Thanks for the insight all.

At 1hr45 on the bus, instead of the usual 30-40 mins, just to get to Wolverhampton I think I’ll go via Crewe…
