I was recently in Rome, and when reading up on how to get around the area I saw that at one point the Roma Lido railway apparently also ran to Roma Termini, as opposed to just the current Porta San Paolo terminus.

I can't really see from Google Maps how the alignment for this would work, and I can't find any information online about it. Does anyone know how these services reached Termini? Was it by using what is now the Line B Metro tunnel, or some other way?

They used the B tunnel

Presumably, it used the same platforms and such, too? How far beyond Termini did the tunnels go at that point, and were the intermediate stations that are currently on the B line used, or did they come along later?

The Ferrovia Roma-Lido was taken over by STEFER (Società delle Tramvie E Ferrovie Elettriche di Roma), which was also responsible for the Ferrovia metropolitana di Roma, the first line of which was to link Roma Termini with the new 'E42' district (for the Esposizione universale del 1942, not that that happened), with a terminus at Laurentina. As part of its construction, a new joint station EUR Magliana was built, including connections between the two lines. After the opening of the metropolitana in 1955, it was decided to have a service of through trains between Termini and Ostia, which started in 1956 (I don't know if these were regarded as 'Metro' or 'Lido' trains, AFAIK they called at all stations): this continued until 1986, when it ceased with start of works on the extension of metro Line B (as it had become) beyond Termini.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for!

It does seem strange that the Lido trains don't operate as part of Line B, though from what I read it has been discussed.
