Quick question about Trenitalia "Regional Digital Ticket"

I'm travelling tomorrow on one of these Trenitalia "Regional Digital Tickets" from Trieste to Venice, but the PDF they sent is all greyed out (not the usual Trenitalia red/green eticket colours) and says "Not valid for travel". Do I need to pick a ticket up, or does this constitute a booking?

I looked online and can't see much information - one site says that a regional digital ticket is valid, others say that I need to show a QR code when asked (there is no QR code).

Thanks for any info - I don't want to get into bother tomorrow.

I think you need to 'activate' the ticket through the website or app for a particular train before scheduled departure time to get a QR code. If you change your mind on which train you want to take, you have to 'deactivate' the ticket and 'reactivate' it for your new departure. An utterly bizarre practice and highly unworkable when there's disruption as they still go based on the scheduled timings.

You do need to activate your ticket before boarding on the Trenitalia app or website. You should have a link to do so in the email you recieved

This is done because you need to choose what train you want to take, once you choose the train, you have unlimited time changes on the day before the scheduled departure of the original train.

If you purchased after logging in, you will find your ticket in the "My Trips" area of the website or on the Trenitalia App.

If you purchased it without login, open the link in the email or SMS you received (if requested

Ah ok thanks, I'll get the app then (I much prefer printing a piece of paper, but hey ho).

It's weird because it's part of an advance journey to Bologna, and the second ticket is normal, so I can't exactly be flexible with this one.

The greyed-out ticket might be an issue. Contact Trenitalia directly for clarification or try re-downloading the ticket.

Yes you can, you can only travel on Regional Trains with Ordinario (usually) tickets, those are flexible and vaild the whole day. The fact it's part of another itinerary involving Frecce or IC is irrelevant, especially if the Regionale is the last part of your itinerary

If it's in the Trenitalia app, IIRC if you activate it well ahead the bar code remains fuzzy until a few minutes before scheduled departure, presumably because it's still changeable up to 5 minutes before. But that was last year and Trenitalia seem to treat digital tickets as a 'journey' with changing procedures every time I go.
