Are the Hitachis running to Blackpool yet?
On Weekdays the 5:35 from Blackpool North is a pair of 805, and the 17:03 from Euston is an 807.

Last Saturday the 7:16 from Euston which forms the 11:51 from Blackpool North is an 807.
Last Sunday both the arrival and departure from Blackpool North was an 805.

Due to have more services being 80x in future but don't know how soon.

May timetable change surely?

Given the two Euston-Birmingham-Blackpool & vice-versa revert to being Euston-Birmingham-Glasgow & v-v with a Euston-Blackpool via Trent Valley & rtn running in place of one pair.

Interesting, I thought it was still all 390s.

The Weekday 11:14 arrival / 11:51 departure at Blackpool North are already timed for 80x but runs as 390 (the other 390 services are currently timed for 390s).
I had assumed it was timed 390 as it would otherwise run to Glasgow, as indeed it will from May.

Can you elaborate on how the DAS is lacking? I imagine it is designed to display permissible speeds unique to the 805/807?
The system was apparently not supposed to be activated. Its appearance is an anomaly. However, the system was seen to lag the train, with the trains real position getting further ahead than what DAS thinks. There were also issues with the DAS suddenly deciding the train was on a slow line as opposed to fast. So the instruction is to ignore any potential DAS advice & report. I'm guessing sorting this will all get added to the list of things to do, which has just got a little longer.

At the May timetable change, the early Blackpool departure reverts to a single 805 unit, combining at Crewe with a Holyhead portion.
Pre-covid, this was always the pattern with Voyagers, it's just taken 5 years to be restored.

Yes, and often by people who don’t really actually care about the criticism deep down, but decide having a go at those who criticise paints them as an ally. (Spoken by a bisexual man, for the record - who until recently actually used to use Avanti to visit his same sex partner.) Moral panic, it’s called. ;)

Anyway, all 807s in service now when this one begins working, right?
Still not sure about 807009 and 805002.

Are the 805's having to run on diesel at any point between Blackpool and Crewe?

I am not on here often and have just spotted elsewhere that Avanti are to run Evero trains on the West Coast Line.
As I live in Preston I am astonished that the station is not included in the list of stopping places.
Can someone confirm this to be the case.
I have emailed Avanti but they are busy and could take 28 days to respond!!
I also asked ( tongue in cheek) if we are to get a third class service will our tickets to/from Preston be cheaper
than on the Roomy Brighter Faster? ( they imply)

Preston is served by a handful of trains towards Blackpool on the Hitachi trains with the trains towards Scotland being Pendos

Why would you be astonished that Preston wouldn’t be included in the list of places they call at? (A handful actually do call at Preston)

The trains have been ordered for A specific purpose that is to operate the routes where diesel units need to operate ie Holyhead and to operate the additional Liverpool services and the odd Blackpool which calls at Preston.

Why also ask about 3rd class service, even tongue in cheek that is now wasting someone’s time having to answer that question.

Can only be 805002 as no time to remove a loco at Darlington
Currently on route south as 5Q23 Merchant Park to Wembley

Basically the 805s are taking the WCML duties from the 221s. The 807s are to bolster the electric fleet where 9 or 11 car long services are not needed. That seems to be Blackpool but also the second service every hour to Liverpool. Scotland retains Pendolinos and istr that the 805s & 807s will not be running North of Preston.

Well I guess the 805s & 807s are an improvement over the redundant 221s (which have gone to Cross Country.

You probably need to read up a bit more on what is going on before jumping in with both feet.

That’s not entirely correct. First of all, the 807s are not just there to bolster the electric fleet, they are also to replace the Voyagers (there were 20 of those and 13 805s), and it’s worth pointing out that the 807s actually have equivalent (if not slightly more) standard class accommodation than a 9 carriage Pendolino anyway. The routes 807s work on are nothing to do with their capacity.

Everos are supposed to work the hourly slower service to Birmingham, not because 9 or 11 car services are not needed, but because Voyagers didn't just work to Chester and North Wales, they had a handful of services to Birmingham, and a handful of services to Scotland via Wolverhampton. An internal reshuffle a few years ago meant that a good few Voyagers replaced Pendolinos on Birmingham terminating services, allowing the Scotland services to become 100% Pendolino operated.

Then, it was made so that the stopping pattern - which was 1tph Birmingham calling at Watford then Coventry, 1tph Birmingham calling at Rugby then Coventry, and 1tph Birmingham (continuing to Scotland) calling at Milton Keynes then Coventry - would change so that 1tph Birmingham would provide all of the hourly calls for Watford, MKC and Rugby, and the other two (one continuing to Scotland) would be non stop.

Considering the 80x have better acceleration than the Pendolinos, and can't take advantage of tilt acceleration where it's best needed up in Scotland anyway, it was decided to make this stopping service Evero operated.

The 807 order was larger than it needed to be to cover Voyagers to allow for a second Liverpool service each hour, and this is why they've started to appear on Liverpools in place of 9-Pendolinos.

True enough - I forgot the seating capacity of each Evero coach is pretty good.
Edited original post.

I also edited my original post as I hadn't finished, please do re-read it :)
That right. I was not going to go into so much detail. The Everos are basically a 221 replacement and for some extra services (Liverpool frequency).

To add to your explanation. It is hoped the better acceleration will overcome the lack of tilt. Currently not so definite as their top speed is (temporarily fingers crossed) limited in places. Certainly acceleration is more use on the services that stop more - that is where getting going again quicker is the real time (and track capacity) saver.

There have been recent murmurings regarding another potential move around, whereby 390s take on the additional Liverpool runs. However, any movement of the Evero fleet onto other routes would involve a lot more driver & TM training & given how "well" that has gone so far, I dont put much faith in the rumours.

Everos on the West mids services are great for being able to nip in & out of stations ( subject to congestion, regulation, TPWS....)
