I travelled on the 1808 from Carlisle to Stafford this evening.

The train was held at Carlisle as the PA system needed resetting. Apparently there had been a fault that meant emergency announcements were being made every few minutes!

The train manager said the train needed turning off and on again.

We stood for about 20 minutes, the reset happened and we set off.

Thereafter, no stations were announced by the PA. The announcements came that we will shortly be arriving at XYZ.....these came about 1 minute after LEAVING XYZ!

There were some manual PAs but these were rather close to arrivals. Stafford was announced when we were at the platform!

Should PAs be human only? Based on knowledge and fact, not electronic triggers?

No it's not,.but most things aren't. Just for people's interest. More of a problem if you are Joe Public, not an enthusiast.
No I know I’m not questioning why you commented on it, just your suggestion that PAs should be manual only as a result of one time the PIS playing up.

I think a friendly, polite, informative human voice can't be beaten. Granted, an automatic announcement can be preferable to some jargon-filled, or self-admiring human ramblings! Or to announce arrival at a station maybe, before you get there though, not 30 seconds after you left!
