I would agree with TP it's a 16-25 but for some reason it's been issued on a Network Railcard. Is there any explanation for this?

Possibly the ticket clerk put the wrong stock into the machine, and didn't realise his/her error.

Definitely a 16-25 though!

If it's been issued to me and has my name on it does it matter if I'm not 16-25...?

Well 1625 Railcards are only valid when accompanied by the matching Photocard (except ones bought online which have the photo printed onto a single card).

If you are not 16-25 years old, you cannot use it as a 16-25 Railcard just because the ticket stock says "Network Railcard" at the top.

You have clearly been sold a 16-25 Railcard as the ticket machine has printed "16-25 RAILCARD" and the price is £26 - not the £28 that a Network Railcard costs.

To repeat, if you are not 16-25 years old, you cannot use this Railcard as it is a 16-25 Railcard (it doesn't matter what ticket stock it is printed on).

I think they're both £28 since around the 22nd of May, but the change happened a week after the card in question was issued.

Unless you're a full time student or you were 16-25 on the date of issue (16/5/11) then you're not eligible.

Although I don't know why they issued it, don't you need proof of age to buy a railcard and if you were renewing they'd have your DOB on the system

Not really on-topic, but I have been given to understand that the Railcard online site can be deceived easily into issuing a railcard to an ineligible person.

Let's put to one side that my first thought which was it's a dummy Railcard produced as part of an exercise at a training school.

If it was actually a Railcard issued at Loughborough Jn a few days before 16 May 2011, then the action needed depends on whether the passenger asked for a Network or a 16-25 Railcard.

If it was sold as a Network Railcard, it should be returned to Loughborough Jn ticket office (M-F 06:15-12:45, 15:20-22:00) to be re-issued properly and for the overcharge of £1 to be refunded. £26 was charged. At the time of sale a Network Railcard cost £25.

If it was sold as a 16-25 then the correct price has been paid but difficulties will be encountered in use due to the lack of a matching photocard. It should be returned to Loughborough Jn ticket office to be re-issued properly.

if you are not 16-25 years old, you cannot use this Railcard as it is a 16-25 Railcard
That's an over-simplification. If the Railcard was sold as a result of a valid application for a 16-25 Railcard, whether or not the holder is now over 25 or at the time of sale was a full-time student, my recommended action is above.

It's simply a clerk error and quite easy to do if you're busy. The clerk has not changed the railcard on the system as 16-25 is the default option on the railcard issuing screen (assuming it's SHERE Smart)

Just return to where it was issued (if impossible then your nearest manned ticket office) and I'm sure the mistake will be rectified and the correct railcard issued.

Both things are true, but my point is fairly obvious! (i.e. if you didn't qualify for a 16-25 Railcard at the time of purchase then you can't use it.) :)
