Northern: Sheffield to Bridlington

Planning a day trip from Stafford to Bridlington. Wondering whether to via Manchester and TPE to Hull, or take the direct Sheffield to Bridlington services.

My deciding factor will probably be train comfort (and price maybe).

What class of stock is allocated to the Sheffiled to Bridlington Northern service please? 158 or 195 - I may go Northern. 150 and I'll plump for TPE!

Most Sheffield to Bridlington services are operated by 170s. Occasionally a 158 may substitute.
150s are very rare these days.

Yes, and some have 2+1 seating still in former first class compartments. I enjoy these units; they are quiet, comfortable and have big windows. Some people still think the ex-first class compartments are first class so you can get a more peaceful journey.

Last time I was up there the Sheffield Brid/Scarborough services were pretty solid 170s. BUT quite a few Scarboroughs were cancelled beyond Hull. I stayed in Scarborough for a week and the 09:01 off there didn't run once all the time I was there.

The 09.54 Sheffield to Cleethorpes doesn't run via Lincoln and is normally a 150.

Sheffield-Cleethorpes Northern services, like the 09:54 (which runs via Brigg not Lincoln), are almost always operated by 150s. Before that, it was usually a pacer. Alternatively, alongside TPE, there's the option to go via Lincoln (changing at Lincoln and Grimsby Town) which is usually a 195 Sheffield-Lincoln and 170 Lincoln-Grimsby-Cleethorpes.
