Judging by RTT it looks like
Platform 1 is the current platform 2
Platform 2 is the current platform 1
Platform 3 is the current platform 4a/4b

With 5,6 and 8 closed for converting into new through roads and construction of the new bay platforms where the current carriage sidings are located
That will be the new platform numbering when the work at Huddersfield is finished. P8 will become P4, the new bay and through platform will be 6 & 5 respectively and the current 5 & 6 filled in. I wonder if this is RTT jumping the gun though? I wouldn't have thought platform (and signalling) renumbering would happen until at least P8/newP4 is ready.

For a precedent, the Reading remodelling included a very early complete renumbering, in a sort of ‘big bang’ style, well before most of the physical work started. In that case they even came up with a P16, which was a temporary number for a bay that would eventually be filled in, leaving P15 as the highest number used.

Yes, that's exactly what's happening in September - there is a 30-day blockade of Huddersfield from Saturday 30th August to Sunday 28th September (i.e., reopening Monday 29th September), which moves Huddersfield to a temporary layout with just the three platforms on the new signalling. Therefore the new platform numbers are in the LTP timetable from then onwards, and RTT is not jumping the gun.

There is then another 30-day blockade of Huddersfield planned for Friday 25th December 2026 to Sunday 25th January 2027, during which the final station layout will be commissioned, including the remaining platforms.

Any changes to Southern/Gatwick Express/Thameslink services? I haven't found any yet!

The 0948 Ely to London Kings Cross becomes the 0947 for some reason, giving me 1 minute less in bed on the days I go to the office.

Not terribly exciting, but a change nevertheless!

Allows the Norwich-Liverpool service to run into platform 3 at 09:49.

Basically this is part of restoring the XC Birmingham-Stansted service to hourly (instead of terminating at Cambridge every two hours). 1T19 departing Ely at 09:47 permits it to arrive into Cambridge at 10:06 instead of 10:07. This allows 1L30, the 07:22 XC service from Birmingham New Street, to arrive at 10:09 instead of 10:11, which allows it to extend forward to Stansted departing at 10:11, before 1T19 departs at 10:14.

The exact relationship between the 1T Ely-Kings Cross and the 1L Birmingham-Stansted varies from hour to hour; most of the time the 1L runs first from Ely, but the 1T at 09:47 and 10:46 both depart Ely first and are overtaken at Cambridge. Quite why it varies is, at this point, still a mystery to me!

1L30 has extra stops between New Street and Leicester so is off pattern leaving Leicester heading east

1L32 has extra stops between New Street and Leicester so is off pattern leaving Leicester heading east, also calls at Manea

Yes. Northern currently operate a similar service on weekends when TPE services are diverted via Brighouse

A bus replacement is in operation connecting this service to Huddersfield from Brighouse which stops at Deighton (which will be closed temporarily)

The service will also be fully returning to Northern after August 29th and the Mirfield to Huddersfield connection will continue to be maintained by the TPE Manchester - York service

Interesting, thanks for confirming.

Makes sense I guess, thanks. I note that eg. in the May 2019 timetable the GN was still at 0948 and the XC at 0952, arriving at Cambridge at 1007 and 1010 respectively (departing 1014 and 1011 respectively) - though I don't recall how well that worked.

(December 2018 timetable had the GN arriving at CBG at 1007 and the XC at 1008 - I don't remember that at all, but obviously that doesn't work!)

22 minute wait at Leicester! That's a rather odd bit of timetabling.

I’ve been checking the Avanti (and TrainSplit when the Avanti one stopped working!) booking engine to see which trains from the TTC will be formed of Evero units on the Euston-Midlands route.

Monday-Friday
Euston-Midlands
09:16 EUS-BHM: 807
10:16 EUS-BHM: 2*805

It’s good to see that almost-total eradication of single 805 workings, and it’s also good to see almost everything on the semifast runs now formed of either an 807 or pair of 805s (at least on a Saturday, there’s still quite a few 390s on weekdays) - it will really provide a standard class capacity increase over pretty much everything other than an 11 car 390 (which has more standard seats than an 807, however IIRC 2*805 beats this).

Thanks for this. Something else really helpful would be Liverpools, so I can avoid Everos as much as possible! Just a friendly heads up I think the captions on Saturdays are a bit jumbled :)

Oh dear, are they that bad? I haven’t had one yet.
Objectively no, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. I think they’re bland inside but they’re perfectly adequate, and they offer armrests by the window in standard which is a plus.

However… I very much like Pendolinos. :E

For some (no doubt good) reason there is no 0822 off New Street

Yes, which means the 0752 is effectively doing the job of what would be both the 0752 and 0822 departures. Seems a little odd.

I note the timetable change also appears to mean the end of the tradition of one of the morning Birmingham->Cambridge/Stansted services starting back somewhere more exotic (Gloucester/Bristol, etc.) - all the services now start at BHM.

I think this is because the xx52 Is normally the Leicester terminator with the Stansted/Cambridge at xx22. The lack of 0822 out of New St is potentially (I’ve not checked) a knock on effect from the 0637 Nottingham running to Bournemouth as in a normal hour this arrival forms the next Birmingham - Nottingham service. So I think a 170 comes in from Cambridge and goes back out to Nottingham

These turn out to be one and the same issue - the current 0821 departure from Birmingham (headcode 1L98) starts back from Bristol at 06:25 (and runs via Gloucester), but there is no such train in the new timetable. Hence why the 0752 will extend beyond Leicester in the path previously used by 1L98.

Particularly strange as I would imagine the 0708 from Gloucester to Birmingham would be quite a busy commuter train, but there doesn't seem to be any direct replacement.

Removing 1L98 from the timetable also removes a (unique?) oddity which is that at Gloucester it currently passes 2E48 (the 0608 BRI-WOS) while it is itself passed by 1S35.
0659 2E48 arr GCR from BRI [0701 from May as it gains 2 mins pathing allowance at Gloster Yard]
0704 1L98 arr GCR from BRI
0707 1S35 passes GCR on the avoiding line from BRI to CNM/BHM/EDB
0708 1L98 dep GCR for CNM/BHM/SSD
0712 2E48 dep GCR for CNM/WOS

Sounds complicated... What could possibly go wrong?!

Does anyone know what the national rail website could be referring to here:

From Sunday 18 May 2025, Avanti West Coast have got more new trains and more frequent services running on several of their routes.

More services have been added on the routes between London and Liverpool, Birmingham and North Wales, as well as between Birmingham and Glasgow. These additional services are coming in thanks to the continued rollout of the new Evero trains and the progression of their driver training programme.

A few small changes will be made to some departure times and calling patterns, but there are no other major changes to the timetable.”
I didn’t think avanti ran services between Birmingham and North Wales, unless it’s a typo and it’s referring to the ones from London.

Isn't that just "London and 3 destinations served from London - 1) Liverpool, 2) Birmingham and 3) North Wales"?

How long have the 22:00 Friday only Edinburgh to Newcastle services been in the timetable for? I'm fairly sure they ran last year as well, but I thought they came in with the May timetable change and they're running at least from this Friday.

There's an error here, the 10:16 ex EUS forms the 12:47 ex New St, so they should be the same power.

There is an early morning Birmingham - Holyhead service and a late night Holyhead - Birmingham service linking Holyhead & Birmingham (via Stafford)

Noted that Coombe Junction Halt has lost 75% of its weekday trains. Now only 0824 down M-F, 0823 down Sat, and 0924 up Saturday.
