It is being reported that a deal has been agreed between ScotRail and ASLEF, covering the next two years:

The settlement date was April 1, but an agreement has now been found - backdated to that date - for a 3.6% increase this year and a further 3% for 2026-27 or the January 2026 RPI figure (published in February 2026), whichever is greater.

The union said that the agreement will also significantly enhance paternity, maternity and adoption pay.

That's good, if that covers this year and next then hopefully negotiations for 2027 can be completed in a timely and equitable manner so that the situation last year isn't repeated in 2027.

Strange feeling, knowing there is the potential for two years of strike free train services coming up... but then, I'm sure the RMT will be along to throw a spanner in the works at some point.

I fully expect that ScotRail will offer the same no strings attached deal to the RMT represented grades in ScotRail, and the grades covered by Unite and TSSA.

2 years of no threat of industrial action in ScotRail is exactly what the current Scottish Government will be wanting, given that there is an election in May 2026.

Early settlements with no unrest will also give confidence to the travelling public, and hopefully we'll see an increase in rail travel across all markets in Scotland.

Aslef and ScotRail should be commended for holding constructive talks and reaching a deal before the end of the 2nd week in April.

Very much so, let us hope that future negotiations are conducted in a similarly prompt and seemingly agreeable manner.

Not all industrial action is about pay. So, there could still be industrial action against ScotRail over the next two years, even if the other unions do receive and accept the same pay deal.

I'm sure they can find something else they can threaten strike action for and get the pay up a bit more...

Yes, but this is where the RMT will decide to put a spanner in the works as it will be an opportunity to squeeze more out of management when other grades pay talks begin.
