Correct. Unless there is a zero tolerance policy then it quickly gets out of control. See Belgium for an example of what happens if it isn’t tackled.
Not just Belgium. Italy and Slovenia were quite bad when I last visited. But of course their railways and all others on the continent are unfenced.

Is it definitely confirmed that Southport-Hunts Cross is back from May? That's what Realtime Trains site shows, but it originally showed it reverting back in April, then this got changed again. I heard some rumblings that Merseyrail may try to make Ormskirk-Hunts Cross permanent as from an operation point of view it works quite well.

Does this mean the selective door operation at Cressington (which I believe is the sticking point for 8 cars on the Hunts Cross line) now resolved?
The timings could do with tightening up a bit, by departing from Ormskirk slightly later. Southbound trains typically arrive at Maghull two or three minutes early. This was the case with the 507s too

Second test event at Everton's new stadium took place today, with 8 Cars being used on the Southport line, between Ormskirk and Sandhills and a few additional services between Liverpool Central and Sandhills. Appeared to be some overcrowding issues on the section between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Central, since 8 Cars are still not able to operate on this section of line due to the platform length issues and selective door operation not yet in place. Is there any update on when the SDO maybe resolved to allow 8 Cars to operate?

There is standing in the peak hour but only for short distances. However if the trains return to running to Southport 8 car trains will be needed.
So Liverpool Central to Hunts Cross does not need 8 cars.
In which case the Southport's should be to Liverpool Central to concentrate the extra units on the sections that are actually overcrowded at 4 cars

I was at Green Lane the other day and I noticed that they had 8 Car Stop markers... but they were well inside the tunnel!

Anyone know what the latest batch of service disruption is due to?

NR claim it's the trains affecting the infrastructure then failing. ME claiming it's NR's infrastructure causing the problem.

Signal system failures apparently

Any idea what the root cause of these are? There seems to be a bit of extremely veiled finger pointing going on from both sides.
Given the 777s have been running for 2 years now, I doubt very much that they have suddenly started causing signal issues like this.

Either way network rail are responsible to make sure they are both reliable and functional with current stock.

On a little side note the network is in desperate need of major signalling works and these disruptions only prove that

Just had a noticeable step down from the front of an 8 car at Central, was high enough that somthing seemed to stop the door and put the step in and out again, the whole front set seemed off so maybe somthing with the suspension?

I also noticed yesterday at Liverpool Central that the signs indicating to passengers the position of each door for a 3car and 6car train are still there.
But nothing similar for the 777s.

So were the 6 boards
... which resulted in photographic opportunities like this!

(Picture shows 'DO NOT ALIGHT HERE' sign immediately outside the [open] doors of 507014, operating a portion of a six-car service calling at Green Lane)

I assume that there is a platform there, albeit very narrow.

Yes. Confined by both width and height.

Attached is a shot of 507011 at Green Lane - showing the usual [then] three-car stopping arrangement, and a close up of the 'extension' into the tunnel to accommodate six car trains. Similar at both ends of the station.

Makes you wonder why it was acceptable with the old stock but the new stock needs selective door opening software.

No doubt the 'elf and shaft you gang have been looking at it, and in order to provide yet another excuse for a pay rise

The old stock basically had grandfather rights and could get away with it, the new stock can't
Nevertheless, the risk must have been considered very low or something would have been done about it.

How often will pairs even run? There's not many spare 777s sitting around.
