I agree, although looking at what happened I don't think it was the Uckfield one...

If the train itself wasn't hit, I wonder if maybe it was the electricity supply/track/something that caused a power surge? Anyone in the know HINT HINT? :D

A signal was hit at Gatwick and a train has been reported hit at Balcombe/Three Bridges (NRE and Southern both say different).

Ignorance is bliss! I was in a meeting in a basement room near Waterloo all afternoon so didn't know anything about the storm. I went to St Pancras for a train to Luton Airport and wondered why there were so many passengers waiting. My train was only 10 minutes late. It was only when I got to Luton and found all the flights were running late that I gathered there'd been a storm that I knew nothing about even though I'd been in central London!

Still got home to Belfast fine too!

GEML was good tonight & compared to yesterday an absolute dream. Sheringham branch had the usual thunderstorm axle counter probs & poor old customer service staff at Norwich had a very large queue following the cancellation of the 16.58 Lwt then the 17.45 Shm. They did their utmost in providing alternative transport even persueding taxi drivers to take a bike at one point. Both Nrw-Cambridge & Liverpool Lime St services where hit with TCFs between Shippea Hill & Ely in both directions. As these services follow each other here delays got to over 20mins.

Rest of WCML appears to be running well, 19.30 ex-Euston has just terminated Glasgow 2 early.

I see that East Coast cancelled the 2115 Newcastle to London KX. Anyone know what alternatives were offered to passengers as that is the last southbound service?

I'm not sure, but there's yet more disruption on the ECML as I write this due to signalling problems caused by vandalism.

There seem to be signalling problems near New Barnet this morning northbound. Saw the Hull Trains service crawling along the slow through Potters Bar about 10 minutes after it should have left Stevenage.
I think a couple of services have been diverted via Hertford.

as a Pway lad said to me once, people don't realise we live in a country of extremes..in Jan it can be minus 20 in July it can be plus 30 Metal is just designed to take that much variation

and you know what

Hes Right

We don't live in a climate of extremes at all, Britain is extremely temperate and has a narrower range of average temperatures than many other countries both in Europe and further afield at the same latitude. The sea is a big balancer in terms of temperature.

Although in recent years we have seen more extreme temperatures in both directions than in most of the last 25.
