It'll be for repairs for the defective steel parts on the bogies/body. Affects ALL IETs 800/801s AIUI... the GWR units that were previously vinyled.... they also seem to be getting painted into GWR while there too

I'm pretty sure its steel. But the issue is well reported. It affects all IETs.

It's aluminium - the 80x units all have aluminium bodyshells. That's why it's so difficult to repair - welding structural aluminium is a very specialist job.

There are usually two GWR units on Eastleigh at any one time - 800013 is the other one at the moment and this should return to GWR next month.

It’s probably that the Aluminium is supplied by Kobe Steel which causes confusion.
