Land's End after arrival on the Night Riviera

Hi all,

I'm travelling down on the Night Riviera at the end of this month (arr Sat 29th March), and I was originally planning to go down to Land's End, before returning to Penzance to catch an HST to Plymouth.

Does anyone know of an alternative to the bus at Penzance, for travelling from Penzance to Land's End, by any chance? The timetabling for the Land's End coaster is absolutely horrendous, as the first service apparently doesn't leave for a full hour after arrival, and there isn't a return for another 2 hours on top of that.

If not, does anyone have any suggestions for alternative itineraries?

It seems a bit awkward off season. After Easter, there will be an hourly service again.

Unfortunately, it seems there is little alternative until then.

I walked it. Starting at Penzance station, I picked up the South West Coast Path through Newlyn and Mousehole, there turning inland to parallel the steeper climbs all the way to Land's End. 14.1 miles in 4h 45 mins.

An alternative would be to take the earlier bus to St. Just (No. 17) and visit Cape Cornwall instead (about a mile walk). This is far more atmospheric than Land's End and without the tourist tat. A more frequent service back to Penzance as well.

There's plenty of taxis available to Penzance... there's a rank right outside the station. ( Are you having breakfast at Sullivan's before heading to Land's End? )

...you might have to arrange in advance a specific return pick up time at Land's End, though.

A one hour wait for a bus doesn't sound "absolutely horrendous" to me, sounds like a great service, especially if you have breakfast or a bit of a walk round the harbour first. Perhaps a stroll down to Newlyn. When you get the bus either go to Lands End first for the photo, then walk to Sennen Cove and get the bus back from there, or the other way, or get the bus to Lands end then walk to Cape Cornwall and into St Just along the coast path.

What are you trying to accomplish at Lands End?
