'Computer causes 30 minute delays to Metrolink'

Due to a computer fault, all Metrolink services are currently subject to delays of up to 30 minutes.

Metrolink sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

And a failed tram shut the Picadilly Spur for about half a hour.
Website now says 40 min delays.

Join the queue: Metrolink services line up at Piccadilly Gardens after tram breaks down

Metrolink services in the city centre came to a halt again this afternoon after a tram 'failed', causing a queue on the tracks in Piccadilly Gardens.

The disruption followed probems on the network during this morning's rush hour caused by a computer failure.

The cause of the tram failure at lunchtime was not immediately clear, although some passengers speculated that it may have been linked to the 28C heat.

Metrolink bosses say the breakdown may have been caused by the hot weather. The tram broke down shortly before 2pm and had to be taken back to its depot at 3pm.

The fault was caused by the tram's traction control unit over heating. A spokesman said it was 'possibly' caused by the hot weather - although it was impossible to say for certain.
Following the breakdown there was a queue of six stationary Metrolink trams in Piccadilly Gardens.

There was a further announcement this morning at 0823 on the Metrolink website stating that all services to Bury, Eccles and Altrincham were affected. A "computer" fault was given as the reason. They then gave a list of buses for passengers to use and stated that any Metrolink tickets were valid on these buses.

My wife and I attended the first exhibition of the Metrolink second city crossing this morning at Manchester Town Hall, but the trams were running along Mosley Street at 1130 and the first one was running towards Piccadilly as a 4-car set.

A press release stated they were doing works on the Tram Management System that morning..... Why?

Because it's a French company's signalling system running Italian and Canadian trams... It's gone on strike...

My wife and I attended the first exhibition of the Metrolink second city crossing this morning at Manchester Town Hall, but the trams were running along Mosley Street at 1130 and the first one was running towards Piccadilly as a 4-car set.

4 car sets on Piccadilly services are unusual but most Altrincham-Bury services are now 4 car T68s, with Piccadilly services mainly being 2 car sets.

To get the old system talking to the new one on the Chorlton line. No surprises for guessing they couldn't!

4 car sets on Piccadilly services are unusual but most Altrincham-Bury services are now 4 car T68s, with Piccadilly services mainly being 2 car sets.

I think that it was to do with the matter of the earlier disruptions and they wanted to bring stock back into the city centre. Not a bad idea, as an emergency measure.

The website is now saying that there are delays on the Eccles line today due to a earlier incident, anyone know what this is.
