This is a bit of a niche thread! Visiting Guildford yesterday and having recently enabled Tap2Go on my SWR Smartcard, it occured to me that the public could freely use the station footbridge as a through route again if they also got a (free) SWR Touch card and had Tap2Go enabled. If I read the rules on Tap2Go correctly, you are not charged if you exit the same station that you enter within 15 minutes. That's plenty of time to get across that bridge.

With hindsight I had plenty of time to check this myself, but failed to do so yesterday.

You've let us all down :'(! When the guilt gets the better of you and you return you must also try multiple crossings, within & outside a 15 minute window!!

Tap2GoNowhere - ITSO exciting!

Although SWR would have liked to prevent the poor old public from using the footbridge, as of this morning they haven't been successful. If you want to cross from Guildford Park Road into town (or vice versa) by using the footbridge you can.

I'd encourage people to continue to do so before SWR try running the argument that no-one uses the privilege any more.

Out of curiosity I wonder where fandroid got the idea public use wasn't allowed?

That was a trail which ended. Nothing further has happened. I have no more info than that.

The footbridge is regularly used by people. How many people I can't say, but it is used.

I use it frequently.

Last Thursday crossing from town to Guildford Park Road just before 10.00pm everything was quiet and orderly with staff at the ticket barriers both sides. As it happens there were also two very large gentlemen in high-vis coats with "Security" on the back very apparent on platform 2. Amazing SWR didn't think of this before.
