Anybody know what is going at the A726 overbridge in East Kilbride, just north east of Hairmyres? The bridge has had one lane closed with several tankers parked up on it (causing traffic chaos and affecting the rail replacement buses which keep getting stuck in the traffic).

Roadworksscotland has it as Transport Scotland/Amey structural repairs on the bridge. Supposedly 122 working days from 17 February 2025. I think the roadworks signs said they will be there for three months. (weeks actually)

Presume it's related to electrification or is it just a good time to do repairs? The bridges nearby are similar but listed as South Lanarkshire Council

From Church Road OB to Giffnock & the other way to Clarkstom New Track with Ballast being Laid. Don't Know if any Lowering of the Track was Carried Out as there is not an available angle to see under the bridge. A good few noisey hours for The Railway Neighbours

Picture 4 looks like shuttering is being put in for a concrete pour to strengthen the bases of the abutments.

On the way to East Kilbride turned a corner and TODAYS NEWS WAS THERE IN FRONT OF ME. The bridge is unusual that it crosses the track at an angle. Looks about 25 Degrees. Also the legs have been built to the same dimensions as the new accesss bridges which will Lifts and Housings to be added. BUSBY is the Place

Road closure: Redwood Drive, East Kilbride will be closed between Eaglesham Road and Redwood Avenue from Monday 3 March to Friday 30 May for road alteration works. Diversion via B764 Eaglesham Road, A726 Queensway and A726 GSO.
That's going to be traffic chaos for the College Milton roadworks. I believe this closure is to improve the cycle and pedestrian access to the new station.

Todays Work Site Sat 1st Mar 2025 Was From just short of Giffnock Station to beyond Burnfield Rd Overbridge. This took in Fenwick Rd and Burnfield Rd Bridges. The EK Up line has been lifted out and the Bulldozers’ have been clearing the spent Ballast. I Can only assume that any lowering of the Track Levels under the 2 Bridges will be being carried out at this time. A note about the Engineering Trains is that the loads that they are brining In & Out have been Reduced as the Engines would be Struggling on the Continuous Gradient up as far as Hairmyres. All trains coming into the site are coming in from a standing start from either Muirhouse North or South Junctions’ and have to negotiate the climb up to Crossmyloof

Monday 10th Mar 2025 saw the last day of the Engineering trains in the 1st half of the 16 week possession as the last of the 90 + trains departs. Some pics of the last few comings and goings with a couple of not often seen views. There maybe an unscheduled other one. Replacement of the foot bridge at Clarkston. The original was lifted out using 2 RRV Cranes and loaded onto trailers and rail moved away for disposal. Heard that the weight of the New Bridge apparently is beyond the capacity of the RRVs. The options are a Road Crane which will have to lift over private & commercial properties. As you can imagine there has been many objections to this. The other is the use of a Kirow rail crane which means another rail movement during the possession. I hope you enjoy the photos

The rush hour traffic hasn't been pretty the last few days which has made the rail closure a bit more miserable.

I'm not sure of the sense of closing Redwood Drive at the same time the A726 rail bridge has works on it!

The traffic going through Eaglesham has been quite astonishing, really puts into focus the strength of the developments in Jackton and the good that the A726 bypass on the GSO did when it opened.

Not surprising. I took the number 6 last week out of EK at rush hour which has been all over the place. It was fairly busy when we boarded and we passed four number 6 buses in the queue from the KFC roundabout to the tax office flyover indicating difficulties running to time.

Giffnock traffic is insane at the moment, causing lots of road rage as people jump lights etc.

I noticed today someone has had the bright idea of doing roadworks next month on orchard park avenue!

And they’ve changed the layout at Clarkston road bridge, looks like it will be even more difficult for busses and HGVs to negotiate. The raised parapets are in place on the bridge.

This week, Network Rail plans to remove the old footbridge at Giffnock station. Their notice states that the new footbridge won't be open until late April and so the pedestrian route will be severed for more than 1 month.

Yesterday, I used the old bridge for the last time. The work site was quiet.

There was a pesedtrian death there last year, so I wondered if the council decided to modify the refuge island during the parapet works. I think that the buses can still make the corner well, and the single lane going onto the Toll is a better layout... if they change the lane markings on the roundabout for the right hand filter going up Mearns Road!

The raised parapets are in place on the bridge.
Also looks like they've cleaned the lower parapets, making it look quite nice. Good stone masonry.

That's quite a break in access for folk on Forres avenue.

The road closure happened but no sign of the bridge.
The old bridge at Giffnock is due to be lifted out on Sunday.

Busby Bridge now out cleaning up work in progress. 1500 hrs Decking being dropped in tonight

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

As with a bridge of its age not a particularly ddifficult job. With the power of todays machinery an east job

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

3 New bridges in a short distance and short space of time. 1) Busby Station Footbridge which was installed on 28th Feb this year so less than a month ago. 2) Busby Station Rail Overbridge. As of yesterday afternoon, around about 1400 Sun 23rd March, the last section of the Bridge was lifted into position. Speaking around 1400 today there wasn’t too much to be done. Ballast had been laid in as were the sleepers complete with the rails. Some more ballast still to go in. The rails still had to be welded in situ. A Tamping machine is expected about 2200 hrs. Road to reopen at 0600 Tue 25th No doubt many services to be sorted out but the main works competed. No 3) Clarkston Station Footbridge which was due to be installed on Thursday the 20th of this month. The works had all been set up and was in progress but a problem developed with the crane resulting in the works having to be cancelled. The Lift In is scheduled for this Thursday 27th March

I drove though today. The lower bit of the bridge with the green paint doesn't stand out as much as I'd have expected!

A few from Clarkston today, Showing progress of the footbridge on both platforms and the cantilevers have been put up and been attached to the masts.

Also, the Overhead Electric Wires have been put up underneath the A726 at Hairmyres.

The bridge was meant to go in during a road closure last week and the cantilevers have been in place for some time so sadly no progress here, programme slippage if anything.

There was an issue with the crane resulting in the lift being postponed. Local businesses have been told that the work will take place on the 27th of March
