Hey All
I know there are couple of posts on this already but they are quite old now and not many discuss on this recently.
As an NR employee, we currently pay 25% of a season ticket plus BiK tax. In practice, for those earning over £50k, this works out at close to 50% of the market cost of the season ticket, which feels like a more realistic way to look at it.
NR has also recently introduced a three-day-per-week office attendance policy (which I don’t have an issue with in principle). However, this effectively requires many of us to purchase full season tickets rather than the more flexible 8-days-in-28 option.
I’m aware that many of our TOC colleagues receive free travel on their own TOC, often including dependants (depending on the TOC). With GBR moving closer and reorganisation discussions already happening (for example with Southeastern and South Western), this feels increasingly relevant.
Ideally, my hope would be for free travel across GBR, similar to what existed under BR. If that isn’t feasible, then at the very least residential travel would be welcome. At worst, I hope any future arrangement isn’t less favourable than the current NR season ticket scheme (which I would completely understand would be a poor outcome for TOC colleagues). It has also been a long-standing frustration that NR staff don’t receive TOC passes at all, though that’s slightly beside the main point.
So far, there doesn’t seem to have been any communication on this - not in all-hands calls, through TUs, or elsewhere. I appreciate that GBR is still some way off legislatively, but I’m wondering whether there’s been any recent information, discussion, or even rumours (credible or otherwise). If anyone has heard anything via TUs or other channels, I’d be grateful for any insight.
Merry Christmas!!
