Please advise me.I travelled with family and friends on Scotrail and my child was not with me.The train attendant allowed me to use the rail card but when I was returning another train attendant said my child was supposed to be with me so he told me he had put a warning on my account. And also said I must not use the card without my child being with me .What does this warning entail?Would I be told to pay a fine?

Realistically, ScotRail doesn't have much leverage in cases such as this. Unlike the English and Welsh train companies, they can't (in practice) bring a private prosecution. At worst they could refer the case to the British Transport Police for potential investigation. But the BTP would not be interested in an isolated instance of travelling with the incorrect ticket.

I suspect nothing more will come of it so long as you don't repeat this.

If you're using a Family & Friends discount there must be a child in the group. This is because teh price for 1 adult and 1 child with a F&F Railcard is cheaper than the undiscounted price for 1 adult. So if a child isn't travelling you could be considered to be evading the fare.

I was just wondering how he would put a warning on my account and that might be embarrassing. Is it the railcard there’s a warning on so o can’t renew

Okay thank you I won’t. Is the warning on the rail card because o just feel it’s on the rail card I should not even use it if am with my kids because that would be embarrassing. The rail attendant would be seeing the warning when I want to pay for my train

I don’t think this would prevent a railcard renewal when the time comes.

There is no such thing as "putting a warning on a railcard".

The warning isn't on the Railcard, but it will be on your Trainline account, assuming the guard actually entered the information onto the ticket acceptance.

Nothing will come of it, unless you're caught again and the rail company decide to ask for further details, at which point it'll show up that you were warned previously.

It will be "accept with warning" on the scan of the ticket that you travelled on without the child. So if you do it again and the revenue investigations people interrogate your purchasing history they'll see you've been spoken to about the matter before and then they can look at your case less sympathetically......

Even if you did it again I don't think it would necessarily flash up. You would be traveling on a brand new ticket so it would only be if somebody checked at the back office. Nevertheless you should travel in accordance with the conditions of issue for your Railcard i.e with a child moving forward.
