Had a train leaving euston to liverpool lime street at 19.37 (adavance single).

However it keeps coming up as delayed.

There is a train at 20.12 which says preparing.

There seems to be some issues at euston generally tonight.

My qu is can i jump onto 20.12?

It looks like the 1937 has just been cancelled.

The 2012 is also just showing "Delayed" now. It's sat in Platform 4, though, but that may change by the time 2012 rolls around given that there's units sat in Platforms 1, 2, 6 and 14 all waiting for their next working.

Loads of cancellations out of Euston today, seems to be a "power failure" according to RTT. I don't want to be pessimistic but if I were you I'd start checking hotels.

All signalling lost at Hanslope Junction earlier. Back on now, but obviously a lot of crew displacement. Apparently the 20:12 is resourced so hopefully will run. Your ticket for the cancelled 19:37 will be valid.

Ok so now we have been put on a train but told this will terminatw at stafford.

This means I miss my onwards connection with merseyrail from liverpool central to aughton.

I will need to get uber to get home. Will avanti reimburse cost of uber?

Which service are you on? Avanti will have a duty to get you to Liverpool Lime Street and onto Aughton if you have a through ticket.

Although if your service is terminating at Stafford - there may be alternative arrangements in place for passengers.

OP said at top of the thread

They spoke of a train to Liverpool Lime Street, then afterwards they talk of Aughton Park. They're asking for advice if Avanti will reimburse costs, it would be helpful to know exactly what ticket.

I know today's delays weren't Avanti's fault, but... If only they'd told Liverpool bound pax to board 1P07 20:31 Euston to Preston as far as Wigan North Western and arranged for Northern to hold the 23:04 from there to Liverpool for a couple of minutes..

Do you already hold a ticket from Liverpool to Aughton Park?

What you need to do now is speak to the Train Manager and ask for their advice.

If you already hold a ticket from Liverpool to Aughton Park then Avanti is obliged to get you to your destination or provide you with a hotel.

They are entitled to see your ticket to Aughton Park through and if you do not already have this then they are only obliged to get you to Liverpool.

I suspect you'll be advised to speak to station staff when you get to Liverpool. However once you get to Liverpool I suspect the station at Lime Street will be closed.

Therefore ask the Train Manager to request a taxi to Aughton Park with Avanti control.

If all of this fails then you will have to either pay for a hotel or for a taxi and obtain a receipt and ask Avanti to pay this. You paying out yourself should not be your go-to and only as a last resort if the railway will not arrange this for you.

If you do not have a ticket to Aughton Park already through Avanti may refuse to pay these expenses.

This may be too late now but would it have been possible to buy a ticket from Liverpool Lime Street to Aughton Park, if you didn't hold one.

Then it would count as one journey from Euston.

Looks like the service has just been terminated at Crewe. Very poor show.

Are you okay @thames? Crewe isn't the best place for hotels either. I hope at the very least they allowed people to stay in the station overnight.
I believe Avanti arranged for road transport to take pax from Stafford to Liverpool- Network Rail had earlier told Avanti that 1F37 would have to terminate at Stafford due to it's late running and a booked possession taking place but presumably something changed so they were able to run it as far as Crewe.

Goodness knows how long it will have taken the OP to get back to Liverpool..

I'm sure there's possessions on the route on a Saturday evening between Crewe & Liverpool. So maybe that's why it terminated at Crewe. Avanti staff are usually very helpful at Crewe.

Let's hope someone could pick the OP up from Liverpool and take them home then. A taxi at that time of night/morning would be hugely expensive and not everyone has a credit card.

If the OP was planning to use an Uber and claim back from Avanti - looking anywhere up to £25-£30 Lime Street - Aughton but this is just an estimate - but it would be good to hear about what happened from the OP.

Hindsight is 20/20 but once they start messing around like that at Euston take the first train north and change en route at Crewe or Warrington or Wigan.

Forgiveness is easier to obtain than permission.

One thing we can learn and remember here (and I don’t think we have found out whether the OP had all the tickets) is that it really can help to have the full combination of tickets before the start of the journey.

I would argue that if the passenger wanted the 1937 then by 1937 they’d need to hold tickets to their final destination in order to be eligible for alternative transport (especially expensive taxis) for the last leg of the journey.
The concept of it all going wrong and at 2326 buying a ticket for the last bit in the hope that you’ll now get a taxi seems a bit off to me.

That said, the railway should be focussing on just doing their best in these tricky situations rather than being particularly petty but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

The roll out and expansion of payg style ticketing puts spanners in those works. (Perhaps I’ll make a new thread on this).

Not to mention it would be trivial to tell when it had been purchased..

But yes PAYG is very convenient for folks like TfL in letting them weasel out of obligations by encouraging (financially) customers to be delaying the purchase of the ticket until the last minute.

When I was in a similar position to the OP having missed the last Merseyrail to Formby due to a 2 and a half hour late arrival into Liverpool after a bit of ping pong with Avanti Customer Relations, when they emailed me asking for any taxi, hotel or meal receipts they stated they wanted to see my ticket from Liverpool to Formby before they could raise a cheque. I simply resent them my Liverpool to Formby ticket even though they had been sent it already.

That said the OP can still ask. Avanti will have to pay out the full amount of the tickets in delay repay anyway.

I wonder what time the buses run til in Liverpool. It would have been fortuitous if they had managed to get a bus, although I'm doubtful at that time of night.
