These used to be available on a postal mailing list. I still have summer 2002 and winter 2002/03, which I think were the last issues?

I recall that the summer issues being red and the winter issues blue was standard.

A handy pocket sized booklet?

Produced by inter city sector iirc.

I suspect they declined on privatisation as operators failed to co operate to produce and pay for them.

They were very handy guides. They mailed them to businesses I suspect and you could get them in travel centres and various ticket offices.

Was branded with the inter city swallow in the heyday.

Stupidly I don’t think I ever kept any

I recall Barry Doe in his rail column bemoaning its demise. I think that’s was well before on line planners would have been a substitute for majority of travellers.

Think it was actually Claret for Summer, based on the brand refresh for InterCity when Chris Green took over as MD (along with Dark Bue for Winter). Previously it was Silver for Summer and Black for Winter.

In InterCity days those colours were used for all the smaller timetables and the pocket cards that were designed to show simply trains from A to B!

There used to be a comprehensive A5 sized full West Coast timetable that showed all West Coast, CrossCountry and other operator services as well. I think that vanished when the Train Operating Units (TOUs) were set up. I'm not sure if comparable timetable books were produced for other routes (e.g. ECML, GWML).

The Intercity Guide to Services!

I used to get them posted to me. Late ‘80s/early ‘90s.

Used to be divided into Intercity’s seven routes/sub-sectors: Anglia, East Coast, Midland, West Coast, Cross Country, Great Western and… Gatwick Express.

Mon-Fri services were highlighted in yellow I think. Blue and magenta for the two weekend days?

Post-privatisation the word ‘Intercity’ was lost and ‘high speed’ was used instead.
