In recent weeks, I have noticed on Saturday evenings the forum will often run really slowly for a few moments, seemingly randomly.

No other website that I have open at the same time does this.

Is it just heavy use on Saturday evenings, or is there something going on behind the scenes at this time, such as updates being applied to the forum? It only seems to happen on Saturday evenings, and moments of normal operation are interspaced with periods where it can take five minutes for a single click to generate teh desired result.

The Forum is attempting to subtly hint that members should find better ways to spend their Saturday night than browsing it. Plus the Forum likes to let its hair down and boogie from time to time which it can't do if all these people are around cramping it's style.

This is the problem. Nobody ever thinks of the forum and its feelings. They expect it to be at 100% all of the time without realising what it’s been through since last Sunday…

It may be because a majority of my participation is on Saturdays, and to a lesser extent Sundays, that this forum works more slowly at weekends

It’s actually the opposite. Saturdays are the quietest day of the week by a fair margin.
Oh that's interesting... in that case I'm stumped to think of any reason why it's usually Saturday late evening when it slows down.

I'd suspect the local internet except that everything else performs normally at the same time...

Only issue I get is if I leave the window open on Railforums with my tablet, it sometimes gets stuck with Cloudfare checking I am a human when reloading it a few hours later. I am outside the UK so may not like my IP address.

There was a lot of Bot (?) activity last Friday evening, 300+ viewing End of the Station quiz seems unlikely. Would such activity make a difference?

Plus the rain comes in, if the weather’s poor… :D

Another time that it is quiet anywhere online might be between 6pm to 7pm on a Weekday for an hour, given the fact that the internet peak begins from 7pm.

Perhaps 6pm is when most of us have their tea and watch the news on television (isn’t that hour an important time of day?).

Anyway, I think Saturday has one of the busiest internet traffic, I did have problems online on such particular day in the past.

Well tonight, I wanted to update a thread.. the whole forums have ground to a standstill.
Checked out people on-line, nothing more than usual I guess.
I can't even find the thread I want to update as it's 'thinking about it'

Yep, I'm having severe issues at the moment - but once again every other website I'm using is working perfectly normally.

Edited to add a screen snip showing the buffering bars on the top right of the screen.

I'm spending more time tonight looking at this than the actual text... and it took three minutes to load this image.

NB Ignore the URL in the lower left corner; that's simply because the cursor was over the search box on the screen when I took the screenshot... I was actually waiting for the home page to load.

That took a long time to load lol!
I wonder if it's something to do with the SQL database (if that's what we use) , out of RUKF's scope.

I have to admit when I tried to edit my post an hour ago on my phone, I had to give up and log in on the Mac as it just would not save.
