McGill’s Midland Bluebird

McGills tend to favour singles over deckers with the exception of Xplore Dundee. I imagine given the capacity at Midland Bluebird - singles would be more appropriate anyway.
Certainly on the core commercial routes, singles are generally fine. They still have a requirement for DDs on many of the Falkirk and Stirling Council school contract routes, so likely be doubles around for a while yet.

38 to Stirling.
McGill's were advertising on Facebook to use them to get to Murrayfield Stadium, and the advert said "direct buses from Falkirk and Stirling to Edinburgh" (or words to that effect): I looked on their website but, as I had thought, there does not appear to be any direct service from McGill's from Stirling to Edinburgh. Is this an oversight on their advert or am I missing something obvious?

Unless the plan is to extend the X38 back to Stirling?

Looks like physical mirrors to me but I could be wrong. Nice to see a new delivery for Midland Bluebird. I wonder what will go once these all arrive

If only it would be the StreetLites but the fact that they have been getting painted into the new livery it seems they want to keep them going for at least a few more years.

2230-2239 will probably go into can imagine as they are 11 plate and I can't see them replacing anything elsewhere in the McGill's network unless they get rid of the older deckers but they will need them for the school work.

If there are 30 due they could possibly do a reshuffle of buses around the depots and replace some of the E300s, B7RLEs and older B7TLs.

Given the Yutongs are going on to the 38 it's probably not unreasonable to assume the E400s currently used there will help displace at least some of the remaining B7TL Geminis.

The type has never been a secret. More Yutong E12s as used elsewhere within the group. They’ll be based at Larbert, so should see use on the Falkirk ‘local’ routes 1-5 and the 38 to Stirling.
I’m surprised they aren’t replacing the E200MMCs on the X38, I heard a driver on the Bright Bus Airport Express that they were getting new buses & assumed that they’d shift the MMCs onto the AirX & use Yutongs on the X38.

Most likely because the Falkirk local routes are making sufficient financial returns to support the investment. Another reason could be the height of the canal bridge east of Linlithgow given that EV single decks have their Battery compartment mounted onto the roof.

What'll happen with the Edinburgh Tenders? Will they keep the Streetlites? Anyhow, I think the AirX doesn't suit Enviro300s especially with their competitor running top-quality B8Ls, it would be nice if they got newer vehicles.

Maybe I'm unique but if I'm looking for airport access, I'll be on the absolute cheapest option every time, unless it takes say 3-4 times as long. So i think this is a good product.

Exactly. You’ve just booked a no frills 4hr flight with Ryanair, EasyJet etc but you want a top quality bus to make the 30 min trip between the airport and the city centre! Many of the Lothian lovers just don’t get that bit.

I suspect the E300s on AirX were a cheap way of trying something as they were surplus.

A measure of the ventures success will be two fold - one if it continues, and two if it makes enough money to justify additional outlay.

I suspect it might get upgrades over time due to cascades, but I don't think it's in the Bright Bus business model to mirror high quality services exactly - it's position is to offer something in the region of 90% of the offering at less than 90% of the cost to the end customer and themselves.

The initial plan might be to use the Yutongs on routes that don't go too far from the depot in case they break down.

More likely - he canal bridge would be a very tight squeeze at best if not impossible.

I agree with this and something I've done post flight. It isn't massively cheaper than Lothian however.

I doubt McGill's have much concern there given experience with them over 3 depots.

Bridge is marked 10' 9", so about 3,277mm. E10s are 3,285mm and E12s are 3,330mm, from the Pelican website. The chord markings are also very narrow. Special low height ones would probably be do-able, but seems quite high risk to have non-standard height single decks.

Comes down to frequency for me. The Lothian fare is not much dearer and I have used much dearer airport buses.

The Yutong is a very reliable product. Much more so than anything BYD/ADL has come up with lately.

McGill’s are very familiar with the product and claim they have very good range.

I did see a full standing load on one of the Bright airport buses last week, I've also noticed there invested in a decker's for the route, maybe a few more will appear. I still don't get why people don't think Bright is still getting customers. If Bright was to go I doubt the Tram or 100 could deal with the extra numbers.

The naysayers won't have access to the bigger picture and just use selective evidence to support their biased views. It happens with the trams as well.

Some people see a handful of empty journeys then climb on their 'told you so' soapbox.

If commercial services like the orange airport bus don't make money they're usually withdrawn after about 2 years maximum. There's little incentive to maintain this as a loss leader for the Bright tour business.

The McGill's Airport Express will always have demand. As I've said before, it covers a stand just outside a completely separate arrivals hall. Whenever a flight arrives from there, people will go to the exit and have an orange bus sat with 'city' on the screen right in front of them. In the same way, for the other two arrivals halls, you exit and the tram and Airlink are sat right in front of you. At the Airport, unless you've planned in advance, or have past experience, the choice is almost non-existent. Most just want to get to the city. The mentioned arrivals hall is quieter, so unsurprisingly a lot of Bright Buses do operate quiet or empty, but not all of them, though perhaps I'm unlucky in my observations as it seems to be most of them. Evidently, the ones that fill well make enough to justify operation of the service. Locals may have loyalty to or familiarity with Airlink/the local transport provider, as is the case with me.
