Good Evening All,

Firstly I just wanted to echo what many previous other members have said, which is to say thank you to all who have posted help/advice/information on here with regards to the recruitment process, it was a great resource for me throughout.

I have recently been offered and accepted a G4 post at the Derby ROC / EMCC, which I'm absolutely ecstatic about!

It was my first attempt at applying and it was a really smooth process for me- it was only about 6 weeks from initial application to offer, so I feel especially lucky, given what others have said on here about how long things have taken for them.

I just wondered if anyone had any idea of the type of roster they operate there? I know it is a 24/7 operation, which is fine for me, I just wondered if it's 12 hour shifts or 8? Is it a week of 4/5/6 shifts then a week of RDs or a more a case of 3-4 shifts each week?

One other question, regarding IST- is there any criteria about where they place you to do it and is it possible to change the location they allocate you? I'm in no way going to risk my appointment and will go wherever I have to, but just wondered if it was possible to request a certain location/distance from home?

Don't forget you'll be staying in a hotel during the week whilst at IST and only travelling home at weekends.

Eastleigh = 7 (with grade 9 SSMs). 8 hour roster (not sure about Sundays)

EMCC are 12-hrs, but not sure of the shift rotation. The G4 roles will be for both the Netherfield and Mansfield workstations. They cover both.

You will probably do IST at Derby, it makes sense. However, your Track Circuit Block (TCB) training course could be undertaken anywhere.

Hi all,

Thank you to all of those that have contributed to this wealth of information,
Recently applied for a G2 Trainee role, Passed all of the criteria and just waiting for an assessment centre.

The only thing I can't seem to figure out is the actual area that I would of applied for?
The job advert suggested the "Lincoln LN4" area but i can't seem to find a signal box that sits in this area.

I know of plenty on the Nottingham/Barnetby Line but struggling for the Lincoln to Peterborough line that would fall into the LN4 area.

Any one with any ideas that it's likely i'd be placed?

If it's in the 'old folks home' (LSCC) then you would rotate through all four workstations.

No, it can take upto a month after advert closes to get an interview if invited.

Shift pattern is 0700-1900/1900-0700
With agreement in place between signallers to do 0630-1830/1830-0630

That doesn't actually say you are on a reserve list - it just says the tests you have already passed will remain valid for six months and if you see any other locations that you are interested in then you should let them know and they will move your application over. You wont have to retake the tests.

They emailed me and it says I am on a reserve list there

That's not normal if you've not had an interview. Normally the second and third placed people after interview would go on the reserve list.

I did a video interview but not face to face. I won’t get my hopes up but at least they haven’t completely disregarded me and it says I’m on a reserve list so I will just crack on with my current job and hope for a future email or phone call

I applied for a role in summer last time passed all but didn’t get the job and put on a reserve list, got offered a job last week and starting in april so could take some time to hear but never give up

I think being in the hotel on Sunday night has became normal now.
It allows you to relax and get settled for the week ahead and means you're not rushing & dragging all your stuff to IST on the Monday.
Plus if something goes wrong with your travel arrangements on Monday (and everyone else made it in because they were up on the Sunday or better organised) you're not potentially missing a day of IST and moving towards being kicked off the course and put on the next one.

Literally about 2 hours ago, but the wait was 6 weeks before then. A very long time and was told I was not shortlisted due to a high number of applicants but they want to keep me on a reserve list

What area was your role for?
You never know you might be a lucky one. Just be patient and wait until they contact you. Upto 6 weeks or even sooner if you are successful
