Traksy seems to be working now - oddly enough I walked past a group of TPE staff at Manchester Piccadilly earlier and I actually heard one of them say “Traksy’s down”!!!! It was also playing up about two or three days ago; it was opening up but none of the trains were moving.
I’ve noticed Traksy advertising some modifications to its site; could this be a possible cause of the issues?
It's a handy tool when working on the railway. While I would never use it to decide if it was safe to be in a red zone (which we aren't allowed to be these days anyway), it is a handy tool to see where trains are when it comes to dealing with the signaller. If I can see that there's going to be a train where I'm working within a few minutes, then there's no point in annoying the signaller for a Line Blockage. If I'm at Abington, and I can see the next train on the Down is in Carlisle, then I know I'm going to get enough time to say, carry out a cable test.
I can understand why Employers don't give us our own version. Because they don't want to encourage some members of staff to take risks and access the line based on it, but as I say, its a handy tool for balancing out ours and the signallers workload. (NB- I believe there may be an app coming down the line for staff. We do have a similar thing called CCF for Windows desktop users, but I understand its been out of support for years and has expensive licensing issues, and is about to be replaced with a Traksy like app which will be available on the iDevices most trackside staff are issued with).
