I fitted the (tiny) buffing gear and buckeye to my N gauge 33/1 from the little packet and my eyesight hasn’t been the same since.

Half-tempted to buy one just to annoy the purists by repainting it into one of 73202's more modern liveries.

My trip to the Model Rail Show at Doncaster racecourse turned out to be quite expensive... But in my defence it is my birthday next week!

First, a Sound-fitted Bachmann 121 in Network SouthEast colours. A liberal application of Rule One required!



Secondly, a Hornby Seacow ballast hopper to give my locos something vaguely realistic to do on a rather small layout depicting a branch line terminus. Also won a Shark brakevan on the auction site to go with it.



And finally, a 153 in NWT Gold Star livery with Northern branding. Completely out of step with everything else I own, but was only purchased for the sound chip which will be transplanted into one of my two Regional Railways dogboxes. Unable to add my photo of that one unfortunately, as it's too large.

It has been a little while, but I have made another addition to my fleet of 37s. This time it is 37057 in EW&S livery. Another Lima model, and nice to get a non-butchered split box example.



I've still got space for a few more, so I'm still keeping an eye out...

This just got dropped off at my flat. Just so happens to be my birthday, so it's a nice little gift for myself (which I paid for well over a year ago, so it feels like it was free!).
All the more reason to bag a few more Seacow wagons to run it with!

Oh I  like that I remember introduction of RF livery - and I saw 31110 fairly soon after its repainting.
I have Hornby's later RF 31110 (mazak-free chassis) - I will treat myself to a 31 once AS releases other '80s "skinhead" examples.

That will come, but the modelling area in my flat (basically just a desk) is currently otherwise occupied!

One slight disappointment was the Shark brakevan I won on the auction site on Sunday. It also arrived yesterday but the seller had mistakenly put my address label on the wrong package... meaning someone somewhere has just received a Shark in the post when they were expecting a pair of point motors (I think) concealed in lineside huts!
Refund and return all sorted with the seller. It's an easy enough mistake to make when you're selling multiple items, in the distant past I mistakenly sent the wrong vinyl records to the wrong purchaser!

Can't quite get the hang of the Dynamis controller (which has sat unopened for over a year until today) as the instructions aren't particularly helpful! I'm probably missing something really obvious... so I've been playing around with it on the old Hornby one for now.

Of course, if you buy a 31, for full authenticity you will also need another loco to rescue it when it fails.

I recently got my hands on a ScotRail 158. Been looking for one without the First logos for ages. Then a 3-car 170 popped up, and, well, it would've been rude not to.



I own not one centimetre of track at this point. The plan was always to get a short length, put the 158 in a case on a shelf and be done, but my nephews (who were happy to test-drive these until I could get over from Finland to pick them up) insist that I have to have a layout and run them. So now it's getting out of control in my head. I'm thinking about something similar to the Kyle line, RETB and a lochside terminus. Of course, I'll need a filthy old 37 to drag fuel tankers up there for the fishing fleet... assuming there are any left after @xotGD has finished!

Your nephews are definitely correct- you need a layout! It's rather cruel to treat models as "shelf princesses" in my opinion...

As my dad always said when I was little, "You don't need that any more than a toad needs side-pockets!" BUT I NEED IT DADDY!

The 158-in-a-box idea came from a realistic assessment of my time, money, space, and modelling skills... but that's out the window now, so we're venturing into the unrealistic.

"Fictional Highland Terminus" seems to be a popular theme, as @Iskra of this parish shows with his Fort George layout. Recall seeing a "Kyle of Tongue" layout in Railway Modeller magazine years ago which looked fantastic, and considered a similar setting (Ullapool) for my own layout.

With these two, it was that or 3D-print the Forth Bridge, and once I worked out how big that would be in OO... One day, though!

88010 from Rails/Dapol. Absolutely brilliant loco and I’m really enjoying running it so far!

However, I have one quick question. The loco comes fitted with a coupler at one end. On the other, there seems to be a snowplough like thing that is blocking it from being inserted. Does anyone know how to do this?

Your space constraints are similar to mine then, although I'm on the ground floor so don't need to worry about lifts... just an awkward narrow corridor. The plus sides to those constraints are that it's not necessary to spend the sort of money needed for a "realistic" length freight train or even loco-hauled passenger stuff. Not that units are "cheap" either of course!

I have been blessed/cursed by manufacturers all deciding to release models which are appropriate for my era and region, with Bachmann's 158/9 and EFE's 144 already out and Heljan's 155 coming soon.

It's funny you should say that...

I have been bidding and being outbid for Hornby models of 37063 in Railfreight repeatedly. There are a lot of them out there, it would seem, but they are in demand. Then along came an example which was being sold as a non-runner, within my budget. No problem for me, when I just have a static display:
