It's good to see that progress is being made with the reopening of Cheadle station.
I recall reading something about potential reopening of Northenden station, but am a bit hazy about what investigations have been doen to date, and any conclusions.
Could someone remind me of the latest position, please - and point me to any related articles - many thanks.
Incidentally, I've seen a picture of George V (or possibly George VI) standing on the platform at Northenden station. If canyone can copy or provide a link, that'd be marvellous - thank-you very much.

Manchester Libraries have a pic of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visiting the station on Wednesday 11th May 1955, so about nine and a half years before the station closed. Believe he was visiting the British Rayon Research Association laboratories in nearby Heald Green / Wythenshawe. The contemporary newspapers of the time made note of the royal party having to cross the rail tracks in order to depart the station, by car, as the "tiny" station at Northenden didn't boast a footbridge or subway.

I don't think there were any plans for Northenden - TfGM's 'Prospectus for Rail' (2022) only mentions possible stations at Adswood, Cheadle, Baguley (interchange with Metrolink ) and Timperley. (Can't link as on mobile).

One problem with Northenden station was that it was nowhere near said settlement although it now surrounded by industrial sites and is a significant employment area.

This forum’s sticky post listing possible reopenings doesn’t include it, which is a good indication it’s not an official current candidate.

Given how slow buses are between Northenden, near where I once lived, and Manchester City Centre, the demand from such a station and Cheadle could overwhelm the services on this line.

Wasn't the station at some time monikered as "Northenden for Wythenshawe" (as per the pic in post #3 upthread) but otherwise I fully agree with your comments. Can't see how it would be possible to easily access the station site these days, or even shoehorn in possible new platforms, due to all the industrial use on both sides of the section of the line (the footprint of the one-time Northenden station buildings, on the 'Up' side of the still extant line, now looks to be part of PP O'Connor's scrap yard).

Not even on my long list of fantasy ideas thought of whilst blue sky strategising.
