Is it declassified on these services?

One of the onboard supervisors suggested this was the case and certainly there seems to be little or no enforcement.

Normally I don’t bother as there is no real difference between first and standard but on the Gatwick Express units that now run on these routes first seems to take up more space than the Southern units so it’s often “risk” sitting there or stand up at peak time.

You can see a list of first class services on Southern's site: https://www.southernrailway.com/tickets-and-payment-methods/first-class

Southampton – Brighton does have 1st in operation, but Portsmouth – Brighton does not.

How confusing for any passengers heading towards Brighton from say Chichester, as how will they know which trains have come from Southampton and which have come from Portsmouth?

(In an ideal world, Southern should follow the lead of South Eastern and do away with 1st class on their services, not like it offers anything extra to standard class these days)

Look at the departure boards which should say either where 1st class is or something along the lines of standard class only, I can't remember the exact wording.

I'm rather surprised they kept it on the Southampton services, honestly. Quite the waste of capacity.

Or not declassify it!
