015 set 2 on 1W13
016 set 5 on 1W11 Cardiff finish
Seems it was an allocation error and there's no feasible swap so it will end in Canton and swap for 67020 instead of 029. 016 is required by DB at Crewe ETD so it will likely run light engine back to Crewe.

I see the 0854 from Cardiff to Manchester was subbed by with a 2 car 197 and was also late leaving Cardiff. I assume there was an issue with the MK4 set leaving Canton.

The 0854 is booked a 197. It's never been a Mk4 on a Saturday and at least for the next 12 months there's no intention for it to be.

Quick reminder that 1W55/1V42 is booked a unit on Saturday

Yes of course. My apologies! I think what made me think it was a MK4 was that there was one near Canton depot as I was approaching Cardiff on the 0556 ex Milford Haven.

Broken drivers seat in the 67 cab.

HD07 was supposed to be the Canton diagram tomorrow so not too sure what will happen there, hopefully loco swap done overnight to get HD05 out or repaired seat to get HD04 back.

As planned, I travelled on the 1V37 9.10 departure from Crewe to Cardiff Saturday 25th Jan. on a first advance.

Train was ~15 late leaving Manchester Piccadilly apparently due to 'a broken down train' and was 18 down by Crewe, then losing another eight minutes to arrive at Cardiff 26 late.

Delay aside, it was a very enjoyable trip. The host was a pleasant chap and kept me topped up with tea as required. The first cup was served with some shortbread and a packet of ready salted crisps.

Went for the large breakfast (£12.50) which was served piping hot and fresh with two perfectly fried eggs and kept me suitability fed all day. A proper good feed, well done.

It was a bit too early to indulge in any alcoholic drinks, but they were all very reasonably priced (e.g. 440ml can of Welsh lager was £4).

I didn't count, but I'd guess there were fewer than six of us in the first class coach at any one time (it was unoccupied when it arrived at Crewe).

I would definitely choose this route to Cardiff again (over Cross Country).

67013 with 6 ;) .

Theres also 07 now spare at Crewe for the next couple of days too. That sets close to it's heavy exam cut off so may well not be seen much if at all before that, if it does venture out it's likely just to be on the Crewe-Crewe Diagram. HD04 and 06 are also due light exams by the end of next weekend, ones likely to be pulled a couple of days early to avoid them both coming up together.

HD01/02/04/05/06 are the planned service rakes tomorrow while 67016 is planned to head light engine Canton to Crewe ETD and 67029 heading from Crewe ATC to Canton to replace 020 which is now on HD05 as the Canton spare.

Have gotten myself first class advances for 1W96 this Tuesday and for 1V91 on Friday.

Here's hoping they keep up their impressive (compared to the last couple months of 2024) record for me so I can finally have at their food menus.

Ah that's what I saw then. For some reason I assumed it was the MK4 ready to form a service to Manchester given that the service I was on was terminating in Cardiff instead of going to Manchester. It was only checking on RTT later on I saw it was a 197. It looks like the same unit I was on 197047 ended up doing the Manchester service at 0854.

Sounds good and very reasonably priced. I'm hoping my next trip to Manchester has a MK4 and I can finally try the breakfast!

HD03s heavy exam should be complete today with it heading to Crewe ETD tomorrow for tyre turning before it's back in service with HD07 spare today then taking it's place on exam.

Yesterday saw a rare 67 vice 153 running with the set that finished in Swansea working 2V08, the last leg of a Heart of Wales service between Swansea and Cardiff.

Hopefully it sticks to set 6, so long as it's a Mk4 rake I suppose.
(And one that isn't out of Water like HD05 was when I made my last attempt)

Definitely feels like TfW are a bit more in control this month.

Wow that is certainly very rare for a MK4 to sub for a 153!

MK4 availability does seem to be much better the last week or so compared to the first half of January.

They've certainly been far better, some random faults and infrastructure/depot issues have led to some substitutions but 5 sets have at least made an appearance pretty much everyday.

They're also in the middle of a heavy exam programme, historically this hammered availability downwards but this time has barely been noticeable, even the locos are much better with a couple of long term absentees but they're undergoing repairs. There's still room for improvement but it's certainly much better these past few weeks than at any time previously.
